Police are investigating a premeditated murder case in Peyia involving the death of 43-year-old Stylianos Stylianou. A 50-year-old man, the victim’s brother-in-law, has been arrested in connection with the incident.
According to a police statement, officers received a report of gunfire at a house in Peyia, near Paphos, around 10.40pm on Wednesday night.
Police arrived at the scene and found the 43-year-old victim dead inside the residence.

Talking to a Cypriot friend recently I was almost surprised by the sheer number of firearms held in almost every house. It’s due to the requirement of having been issued with them, all members of the National Guard, reservists included keep them at home, plus the number of hunting rifles. Considering this fact, it’s very fortunate that firearms are seldom used for crime.
But of course they may be used to settle a serious family or perhaps a heated dispute with a neighbour…
But the friend thought that too many people have these potentially lethal weapons so easily available.
