Question.For those who like a tipple.A

A serious topic arose at our board meeting ( down at the pub ) about the alcoholic content of our beverages.
It was hotly disputed about the alcoholic volume of your favourite tipple.
Lets say you had a Whisky with an alcohol volume of 34%.You had plenty of ice with it or maybe a large soda.Does this weaken the alcoholic volume of your drink.

Whiskey is usually 40% by volume. Diluting with a mixer, water and ice will bring the amount of alchohol by volume down, probably making it a little easier on your internal organs, but you will be consuming the same amount and the same number of units.
As an aside, watch out for Carlsberg. Local brewed Carlsberg is over 4% alhohol by volume. However, Alpha Mega, and some of the Euro type shops have got UK brewed Carlsberg which is only 3.4% by volume, and, not as nice a drink(IMHO)

NO matter how you mix extras into your 40% whiskey you are still drinking the 40% by volume......so beware!

By volume of the Whiskey, but surely not 40% if you double or triple the volume of the drink with a mixer ???

Whiskey evaporates slowly in air so my thinking is if mixed with water etc & takes longer to drink then more alcohol
will evaporate. Over to you Einstein's

If you get a UK optic measure of 25ml, there is 10ml of alcohol in it (25ml x 40%). No matter how much water, dry ginger, coke or muddy puddle water in it, there is still 10ml of alcohol. Yes the %age will have dropped but still 10ml and that is what matters when you blow in the bag or have a blood test.

Adding a mixer and/or ice reduces the proof by volume but not the alcoholic content. So it will be smoother when drunk, but with the same buzz.
