Caught at the traffic lights
Caught at the traffic lights
Foolish of me, I went through a red whilst turning right and got flashed.
But I'm not sure what the procedure is, does anyone know how you get your fine issued to you, by post, if so I have moved house in the past 12 months so they won't have my correct address.

Re: Caught at the traffic lights
That is a big problem if they don't know the correct address to send the court summons to. If I were you I would call at your local Police Station to ask them what to do.
The summons does come in a letter and there is a form attached to the envelope, that has to be signed, showing you have received it. In the envelope, it will tell you that if you wish to avoid going to court you can go online to sort it out. It gives you the www address and you can pay the fine online.
My transgression (the same) cost me 300 euros and I got 3 points on my licence

Thanks Trev. I was told it can take up to 3 months to be issued.

Yes it does take a while. I was also told that you can look online to see if you have any outstanding tickets. I cna't find the web address for that but will have a look for it.

Re: Caught at the traffic lights
I think Uncle D's offence was a bit more than 'Being slightly over the white line at a pedestrian crossing'.

I have to say that I am a lot better behaved at traffic lights now than I was a few months ago.

Is this link any help? https://www.gov.cy/en/digital-services/ ... oZERthnNPE
I used to drive a bit like the locals when turning right at the lights but not any more which I suppose means the cameras are doing their job. Don't understand why there aren't any cameras at the electricity board lights as that is a very bad place for drivers running the red lights.

Perhaps that would cause too much of a tailback? It would have a knockon effect at the Motorway and Post Office Roundabouts.

Well I will have to have a good look around. I always thought there were cameras at the Electricity Board lights. I will still be careful there though

Re: Caught at the traffic lights
We were caught speeding the summons took over 2 months to arrive. You have to fill out a form to verify the driver and send it registered mail.
It took over a year for the fine to be imposed. For more information here is the camera system website.

Fines will not be reduced. Translation and link attached.
Below is also a link to check fines and outstanding warrants but can take a few days before your details are available or just wait for the letter if your address is the same as that on your log book.

The 300 euro fines remain on the cameras – The Ministry throws them into the photo-marking system
June 25, 2024 - 9:54 am
Fines of 300 euros remain for traffic light violations. A modification of the photo-marking cameras is needed by the manufacturer to implement the new legislation passed by the parliament to change the fines imposed for violations, transport minister Alexis Vafeadis told ASTRA, noting that it is unknown how long this change will take.
Changes should be made, he said, as far as foul lines are concerned and one more added. He added that the transport ministry would consult with the manufacturing company, which had previously been contacted but had not given an answer as to when or whether it would be possible to make the changes to the light marking cameras.
In response to a question about whether the fine of 300 euros for the violation of the pedestrian crossing should be charged at 85 euros, as voted last week by the parliament, since it is unknown if and when the changes to the traffic lights can be made, Mr. Vafeadis replied that this is a matter for the police.
Regarding smart stops, the transport minister said that at least 300 new ones will be installed by 2024, and that several of them will have bus arrival and departure times, while another 100 stops will be fixed.

Coincidentally I tried that link 2 days ago and it says 'service suspended' when you click on warrants. But I came across another link that works -Sandy1970 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 27, 2024 10:23 am Fines will not be reduced. Translation and link attached.

On the 1st page just enter your date of birth. On the 2nd I used the 'Identity Card Number (Cypriot)' field for my MEU3 number. You need to enter an expiry date, which my yellow slip doesn't have, so I just added 10 years to the date of issue and that worked.
No outstanding fines for me

Re: Caught at the traffic lights
Big mistake making statements like that - I don't know how it works but now that you've said it you can almost guarantee that you will have one just around the corner.
Re: Caught at the traffic lights
A good friend of mine who owns a paphos car hire company has over 40 letters on his desk from the authorities for speeding and traffic light violations, he passes on details of hirers to the authorities for them to follow up.
A number of these are regular customers of his and have not recieved any follow up at all, some are going back a year.
I personally probably take a little extra care when out and about now.

I started off with nothing and have most of it left !
Re: Caught at the traffic lights
I too certainly take extra care now when driving, including trying to stick to the speed limits in town

Re: Caught at the traffic lights
Certainly a good idea to keep behind tourist cars these days, they always keep to the limit....
Re: Caught at the traffic lights
Yikes, yes, I did rather tempt fate, didn't I? I do find the filter lights quite stressful now as it's easy to be in the wrong place when the lights change, so it may only be a matter of time.71 Trans Am wrote: ↑Thu Jun 27, 2024 1:15 pmBig mistake making statements like that - I don't know how it works but now that you've said it you can almost guarantee that you will have one just around the corner.
