Last drove on the Island 5 yrs ago until this week
The way the traffic lights and speed cameras seem to be set up to catch tourist.
65 then 30 then 50 then lights.
Fella I rent my car off said even if you cross white line you will get a 300 fine.
Yet all locals drive like mad over limit sound there horn.
Baffles me this. Me thinks it is a way to get tourists to cough up

No, they are doing everyone. Just be careful. Locals are not encroaching the white line anymore. We now avoid making a right turn at traffic lights (those near Lidl) as we were flashed by the camera before they came fully operational, as we were in the crown of the road, waiting to turn right, when the lights changed, and cars coming down Polis Road in the opposite direction, came throught on amber and red.
Also beware of the Brinx Max white speed vans. They are supposed to put up warning speed camera signs. but will now hide them behind a parked vehicle. Ironically, we saw one driving through Achelia on the B6 well and truly exceeding the speed limit.

Anarita John, I have been fined at the traffic lights you mention near Lidl. Like you, I was in the middle of the road waiting to turn right towards the hospital. But when the lights changed to amber and red for traffic coming down Mesogi Road the approaching traffic did not stop.
So I was caught in 'no mans land'. I paid the Fine of 300 euros (you can go to court) and I also got 3 points on my clean licence.
Again, Like you, I have vowed not to make a right turn there again.

The way the lights operate for right turns since the cams were installed confused the hell out of me until my barber explained we’ve all been getting away with it for years. Not helped by the fact that other right turn lights are sequenced differently - even further down the hill towards Paphos.

The fines are being proposed for a slight modification - see linked article below. Also they’ve clarified that that the camera logos painted in some lights do not ‘trump’, the existing road markings and are there just as a visual reminder.

Have you seen the traffic lights at the cross road junction near the Electric board offices. There is a turn right lane when heading in the direction of the Motorway.. But the green light for the right turn is UNDER the green light for straight forward and there is no arrow on it
Others must surely have seen this..

Well this white speed vans are every Saturday on the busy road to the airport and I believe quite a lot of tourists (and taxis ??) in a hurry to get to the port timely will get fined.
Yesterday they parked just meters after the 50km sign where nobody drives 50 km/h on this inviting straight long road, just after the Ezousa bridge.

If you would drive 50 km/h there you will create a traffic problem and the cars behind you will get mad and start overtaking you..

Dominic, this report suggests that not only have fatalities increased but that the primary cause is carelessness and not paying attention (mobiles probably). Combine that with a poor seatbelt wearing records - so many reports of incidents over the years have commented that the victims were not wearing seat belts, and the risk of fatalities can increase regardless of speed. A seatbelt in a head on even at 30 kmh can be the difference between life and death. This happened to our griends on the back road out of Polemi only a few weeks ago. Whilst injured, without a seatbelt our friend would probably not have survive.

The increase occurred in areas not covered by the cameras. Nice to see that Paphos had zero fatalities though.
