Johnny Johnson

Post by Conoflex »

To be honest i didn't know of his gentleman until the last few days, but I found it astonishing that he could be overlooked in the recent awards list

The whole honours system has of course been hugely discredited by rewarding people for simply doing their job or making themselves lots of money without paying any tax on it, but the fact no one dishing out these gongs saw fit to give Johnny one is probably he most damning indictment you could have of the whole system

The entire system is antiquated claptrap. Rewards for political BJs, being a senior General/Admiral/Policeman/Civil Servant and other such nonsense, never mind rewards for many businesspeople who then turn out to be crooks, sportspeople who turn out to be drug cheats....

Only charitable work and helping others, should be considered honourable... or scrap it all....

While we are at it, rid the country of the parasites who live off us and never dream of belt tightening.

I'm happy that people who have given untold enjoyment to millions of people over 40 or 50 years should be given the highest award ... so I have no problem at all with Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, Rod Stewart ...

74% of the New Years Honours list are ordinary citizens, a small percentage are ' famous' most are nominated by ordinary people...

Johnny Johnson has been ignored before why I have no idea, but Carol vorderman and the Sun newspaper in my opinion are not the correct way of doing anything...that's possibly the fault...

But to dismiss those who have been honoured because of those that haven't ( and maybe should have been ) is ridiculous...

I'm glad we still have the honours system, and that we have a Sir Andy Murray, and Sir Mo Farah..for many reasons...it's a British thing and one I'm glad we continue...

This year’s honours are the most diverse ever. In the almost 100-year history of the Order of the British Empire there has never been a greater number of individuals from a Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) background. :D

I just signed the petition, “Give Britain's last surviving Dambuster hero a knighthood.” I think this is important. Will you sign it too?
Here’s the link:

Alan

Don't know why but the link comes up in German on my laptop, very odd. I would sign if I could.

I fail to see why people who have been well paid for doing a job, or excel at sport are rewarded with a knighthood. Surely it should go to people who have made sacrifices for their fellow man, or spent time giving of themselves for those less fortunate. Personally I find it all a farce.

Still in German, the only thing in English is my name !

CG

He might feel like it, but probably too much of a gentleman to do so.

I doubt that he would turn down an award because he would be certain to attach that award to Bomber Command and 617 squadron, although maybe not to Gibson so much, as he can't stand him. I do not know if anybody has read his book but I can recommend it, it is an easy read, "The Last British Dambuster"
Thanks, I'll look it up...
