British pensioner David Hunter, 76, was sentenced to two years in jail on Monday, for the death of his wife Janice.
The decision by Paphos criminal court was unanimous, saying it was important to take into account his personal circumstances and the message that has to be sent to society.
The time he has served will be taken into account. He has been in jail since December 18, 2021.
His lawyer Michael Polak said they expect that would mean Hunter would be released August 18.
Under Cypriot law, smaller sentences mean one year of jail time translates to 10 months.
Hunter was found guilty of manslaughter for killing his wife, in December 2021. The judges said they took into account his clear criminal record and the motives behind the decision, which were to relieve his wife of her suffering.

At last some sense. They have just released him from prison this morning (BBC News) after the prison recalculated his time spent in custody. Now perhaps he can come home to the UK with his daughter.

I cannot begin to imagine the hell this man has been through. I am so pleased he is being released today. I know it will be difficult for him but I hope he can live out his life in peace now.

So pleased to hear this, poor man has been through so much. From what I've seen on the BBC today, he is going to be welcomed back by his family and friends at home. Also he'll be able to see his wife's grave for the first time.
I hope that he'll be able to readjust to his new life, and find some peace.
