Waiting time reduced for photo-voltaic installations.. CM

Post by cyprusmax47 »

That could be good news for people interested in installing a PV net-metering system to produce their own electricity...

Just had a PV system fitted in the UK. We have to apply to the power company that supplies our electricity with a G98 form before we can start exporting to our billing company, which is a different company than the supply company. We will then get a DNO from Scottish Power which we send to Octopus Energy, who then can put us on an export tariff. According to Scottish Power, it takes 11 weeks to get the DNO and then we will probably have another wait for Octopus to put us on their Flux tariff.

It only took 8 weeks 3 years ago in Cyprus. Panels installed at the end of June, system inspected at the end of August and online. Plus, Greenair handled all of the paper work, whereas I have had to do the submitting in the UK.

As a side note: nobody mentioned the mistake in the CM article concerning that part:

"Most of the applications made are for net metering systems, whereby solar panels are installed at a property and if they produce more energy than the property consumes, the excess energy is supplied to the grid and the bill payer eligible for a payout."

This is not correct as nobody gets a payout from the electricity you produce from PV and the surplus you send to the grid. (except when you cancel your net-metering agreement with EAC).

However any surplus on your meter will be credited for times, like in Winter, your consumption in the house is higher than your production of kWh' s from the sun.

In the UK, permission came through today, 3 days after submitting, so we have now got a number we can quote to our supplier. Our 13.5 kwh Tesla battery will be fitted next week. However, even on a full cloud cover, rainy day, we are still producing between 100 watts and 900 watts, which is enough to run a small heater in our lounge, for very little cost.
We are really pleased we chose a reputable installer, just as we did in Cyprus. They were more expensive than other quotes we had, but we have top quality panels, solar edge and a 5.1kwh solar edge inverter, and solar edge optimisers. We were going to have a 10kwh solar edge battery, but Tesla had reduced their prices so we went for a 13.5kw Tesla.
