Cod fillets

Post by glowred »

Does anyone know where to buy decent cod fillets, the small ones in lidl shrink to bitesize after cooking and the large frozen fillets in Phillipos in Peyia are quite tough or does any know where the fish and chip shops get there fish from.

The frozen Lidl cod fillets, which are in a vac type bag and quite thick (like cod loin) are the best we have had in Cyprus. Unfortunately they have not had them for quite a while. We defrost them and then dust them in flour before shallow frying in light olive oil. A lot of the cod sold is pollock and you have to read the labels carefully to spot what it is.

Absolutely agree with the quality of the Lidl cod which are out of stock since 2 month. I always have them in my freezer, however also my stock is nearly finished now.

here a photo, cooked plain, just in butter on low heat until fish temperature is 40c. It is so tender that the filet is falling apart when you are not careful serving....
