A video of a pier collapsing in the Famagusta fishing harbour is making the rounds on Turkish Cypriot social media accounts.
The pier, which was built on foundation which was laid by the British 114 years ago, collapsed seconds after people passed over it on Saturday. It is thought that the pier collapsed due to erosion suffered by the pillars holding it up. A whole part of the pier was buried under water within seconds taking two fishing boats with it.
The event was caught on the port’s security camera. In the two minutes leading up to the collapse at least ten people were recorded to have passed over the part of the pier which collapsed. Luckily nobody was seriously injured.

Why do they stop the film at the crucial point?
That chap who walked over it last will no doubt get teased about his weight.
