All you need to know to renew your road tax license

The following is a notice from the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Works (Department of Road Transport) regarding the renewal of vehicle registration permits for the year 2023:

The renewal of vehicle registration permits for 2023 will begin on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 until Saturday, March 11, 2023, at 23:59. Permits can be renewed for a period of three, six, nine, or twelve months. Following Saturday's deadline, a surcharge of EUR 10 plus 10% of the renewal fee (corresponding to the amount due for the current year) will be applied.

Registration renewals must be accompanied by a Certificate of suitability or roadworthiness (MOT) and proof of insurance.

To avoid a potential system overload that could result in inconvenience, TOM advises everyone to make sure they renew their vehicle's license in plenty of time and not to wait until the last few days.

Remember to notify TOM to immobilize your vehicle if you renewed your vehicle registration for the year 2022 but do not plan to renew it for the following year, 2023. The Road Transport Department's (mcw.gov.cy) TOM website also offers an online immobilization option. In any other case, you're still obligated to pay the registration fee's associated sum.

Vehicles whose registration permit for the year 2022 has not been renewed and which have not been registered as immobilized will be deleted from the TOM register if the amount due for the year 2022 is not paid and the registration permit for the year 2023 is not renewed by midnight on Saturday 11.3.2023.

In the event of vehicle destruction, an application for cancellation of vehicle registration (form TOM 98A) should be submitted to the TOM, along with a "Certificate of Destruction" issued by a licensed vehicle waste treatment facility, to exempt the vehicle owner from the obligation to pay registration fees from the date of vehicle destruction.

Registration permits can be renewed throughout the year, online, at Banks, KEPs, Provincial Offices of the Department of Postal Services and Provincial Offices of the TOM.

No notices will be sent to vehicle owners for renewal of registration permits.

The wife went down to road tax office only to be told she must make an appointment, this she did...They said also it could be done online....

I do as well, though I am not sure how you can show the car is insured and has an MOT

For several years now, I've road taxed my car at the bank
and all that I've shown is the log book.

I used to use the Bank in the village until it closed. But in recent yers I have used JCC

This is the way to go! I couldn't work out how to do it through the TOM website for the life of me.

I usually renew my road tax at my bank. I take my car's log book, MOT and insurance cert, just in case. But they only want the log book.

Been using the JCC method for some years, very easy to do.

The renewal of vehicle registration permits for 2023 through banks can only be done online and not at a bank branch, the Department of Road Transport said on Wednesday.

As I read it

Registration permits can be renewed throughout the year: online, at Banks, Citizens’ Assistance Centres (KEPs) and District Offices of the Department of Post Services

As I read it I think you can renew at Banks etc..?4

I do as well, though I am not sure how you can show the car is insured and has an MOT

Simples your vehicle details,MOT and insurance is noted on line, so they can see that all is ok .....or not..
If the police stop you ,they already know MOT Insurance and tax details

I've been trying to renew via JCC since yesterday morning, however, when I enter the VRM, the last three digits of my passport number and the renewal period, I get an error message which says that the VRM and owners reference number does not match.

I only became the owner of the car in August, so this is the first time I've tried to renew the road tax.

Has anyone else had a similar problem and if so how was it resolved.

Find your log book
The VRM needs to be the last three numbers in the [C9] column (near the bottom left) before the /

e.g mine says A/0000001234/0 so the number I use is 234
