UK tourism market buoyant, Cyprus now sets sights on US
Although it has been a difficult year for Cyprus tourism, 2022 has been a "very very good year" in terms of arrivals from the UK, Deputy Tourism Minister Savvas Perdios said on Tuesday, predicting that 2023 would be as problematic. Speaking from the World Travel Market in London, Perdios said...

Pray, tell me, other than a few Americans with an interest in the history of Cyprus, how many are going to come here many thousands of kilometres when they can get all the sun and the culture they need within the 50 states, at a tiny fraction of the price and no hassle?

To make Cyprus a worthwhile destination for Americans to visit, the tourism department would need to advertise a must-see, iconic attraction on a par with the Louvre, Colosseum or Parthenon, or it won't capture their imaginations. I don't think Cyrus has such an attraction. The advertising euros would be better spent elsewhere.

What a waste of money. I was born in the States and agree with all the previous comments.

For a start there are many Greeks/Cypriots who live and study in the states, they have friends relatives who would come and go,
on our many cruises around the Med we talk to americans who combine a cruise with touring the holyland Greece, Italy etc, they could use Cyprus as a base for seeing the surrounding area, I really despair at all the negativity posted on here, one other thing the majority of members on here are retired and get their pensions every month no worry about putting food on the table for most of tnem
The Im alright jack attitude is alive and well
out in the real world, out side the expat bubble Cyprus depends on tourism as to a big number of people living here many with family's trying to make ends meet, anything the government does to encourage tourism should be applauded .

Ask 100 American citizens where Cyprus is and 50 of them will reply duh!, 49 of them will ask whether it is in Georgia, Arizona or Alaska. Only one of them would suggest that it was in Europe!

To use your words "" Duh"" surely that is the reason the government is spending money on advertising?

According to our site stats, USA is the fourth most common country of origin to view this site. 3rd is Poland, 2nd UK and 1st Cyprus. Below that you have Germany, Israel, Netherlands, Ireland, Hungary and Austria.

Don't forget that retired Cypriots are also in the same category and get their Pensions paid every month.

Yes Trev, but I was commentating on the retired expats on here, who are posting negative comments on Cyprus advertising in the USA,trevnhil wrote: ↑Fri Nov 11, 2022 5:14 pm Re "one other thing the majority of members on here are retired and get their pensions every month no worry about putting food on the table for most of them"

If retired Cypriots were posting negative comments I would of mention them also.
