Armistice Day

Post by memory man »

For much of the rest of the world and especially in Europe, it is Armistice Day, the day that marks the end of World War I.
On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918 when the armistice was signed, over 20 million people had lost their lives.

The Last Post Ceremony is one of the most moving commemorations on the Western Front. Each night, thousands of people gather beneath the Menin Gate Memorial to the Missing, to hear buglers from the town of Ypres perform the Last Post, a tribute they have carried out for more than 80 years.
