Same method for me, the bag traps the ethylene gas and helps the ripening process, it can take a few days though. 8-)
I started off with nothing and have most of it left !

Lidl's had some soft ones last week,
as i found out when i squeezed one and my thumb disappeared in to it.

The sign that a Avocado "Hass" is ripe shows the colour. When it is black it is ready to consume.

We put ours at the bottom of the fruit bowl with a bunch of bananas on top.....

The best way to get an Avocado to ripen is to put it (or them) in a brown paper bag and leave in a warm place for several days. It is ready to eat once it feels slightly soft to a gentle squeeze.
