Link to a very detailed article about Smart Parking terms of use - I shall just avoid those areas as I use a PAYG system on my mobile phone and only have enough credit to keep the number valid.

You don’t select a spot in the app in advance, only when you get there.

How would it work for people on holiday that hire cars and wish to park in these carparks, ie from U.K.
Re: Smart App or SMS Payment Required At 8 Parking Locations From Monday
I looked this morning on my phone for a Paphos parking app to download. I found quite a few on there, but I didn't know which one to download ??

If you go back to the first post in the thread from Dominic and click through to the article, the links are there to take you to the correct app for either Android or Apple devices.

Next question - Do you need internet access when you are using the App to enter the 4 digit parking space number?PolemIan wrote: ↑Thu Nov 03, 2022 7:16 pmIt’s easy Trev. You download the app, register, then load your account with money using a link to JCC to top it up, a system many of us are used to, I did €10 for example when the system first launched and I’m still on that first €10.
Than when you Park you open the app, start parking and type in the 4 digit parking space number, job done, I can do that quicker than it would take to walk to the ticket machine.
When you return you just select end parking and it’s tells you the cost. If you forget and drive off, later on you’ll get an email reminding you to end the parking session so you don’t drain your account.
The apps shows the account balances, history of top ups and a log of all your parking sessions and costs. Easy to use and no more complicated than something like an Oyster card on the London Underground.
Simples.

Yes, I have a smart phone but use it mostly for voice calls, sending/receiving SMS and playing games!
Re: Smart App or SMS Payment Required At 8 Parking Locations From Monday
For the smart app you do need internet. But you only need to turn data on for a minute or as you log your parking and then a minute as you leave (you don't need to leave it on the whole time you're out). So it would only use a little data.
Re: Smart App or SMS Payment Required At 8 Parking Locations From Monday
Well I downloaded the app onto my phone.
Now all I have to figure out is how to link it to JCC and put 10 euros on like Ian has done

Trev, think I would be finding another car park.
I've had a mobile phone since the early 1990s but always on PAYG for calls and texts, no data services as both me and my husband linked to our own broadband router at home or used free WiFi hotspots when out and about, or travelling.
I got myself a SMARTY SIM card at the end of September last year and that's the first time I began to have my own data. I rarely use it and get refunded for my unused data after my chosen plan expires at the end of the 30 day period.
I only got the SIM in case I needed to contact my mum back home when we were on holiday.
I can switch it up or down as I want to, no contract either which suits me just fine. I can go back to PAYG anytime I like.
This car parking system would just annoy the hell out of me. I'm no technophobe, I enjoy techie stuff but I don't like being held over a barrel.

Actually my phone is also a pay-as-you-go one but you can turn the data on or off when you want to.
I will give the system a try once I get the payments from JCC sorted out.
But it does seem a lot more complicated that just putting a coin in a meter.
Also at the moment how do you know which parking area you are actually in.. It mentions lots of different names, but I have no idea where they are referring to

Pay by SMS.
Regarding which car park you are in, it is irrelevent. You just need to know the number of the bay you have parked in.
The system is actually straightforward, if you try it out.

Thanks to those who have answered my many questions - looks like the SMS payment system is best for me!

They can also download the app or pay by sms

Trev, not as complex as getting to car park, realising you have not got any change, then assuming everybody as honest and upstanding as you, having to then go and buy something you don’t want to get some change, or risking leaving the car where it is whilst doing that and being unlucky that one of the traffic wardens tickets you whilst you do that, or waste some fuel while you drive to somewhere to buy something, and then when you get the change the bloody manchineel doesn’t like your coins.trevnhil wrote: ↑Sat Nov 05, 2022 7:34 am Actually my phone is also a pay-as-you-go one but you can turn the data on or off when you want to.

I’ll stick with opening an app on a phone I’ve always got with me, typing a 4 digit number and paying before I’ve even got out of the car.
You might also find, as I did some years ago, that some of the pay monthly packages with more data than you’ll need are better value than paying via PAYG and one less thing to think about.
If you need help with the App, come round for a coffee and I’ll help you. Piece of cake in Apple world, hopefully similar on the weird world of Android.

As of last Friday, the coin machine was still in operation. In fact the whole machine has been updated, you can pay using your card. But it still incorporates the old coin in the slot option which I used!
OK it-cost me €1 fir 2 hrs, but still a very fair price!

Lincoln, we do have change for supermarket trolleys in our cars if needed but these days since the rules changed we hardly use cash, even in our local village shops and taverna, so change is an increasingly rare commodity - used an ATM only 3 times this year according to my records. Cash is a PITA for me personally.
