Who needs friends!!

Man sells friend’s car he was supposed to look after

Police are investigating a case of fraud by false representation against a 40-year-old man who is wanted, Paphos police spokesman Michael Nicolaou said on Tuesday.

According to police, the case was reported by the owner of the vehicle, a 38-year-old man, who filed a complaint saying that while he was abroad on holiday, his friend sold his car, which he was supposed to look after.

The complainant said that when he returned to Cyprus in November 2021, he asked for his car but the 40-year-old refrained from returning it, citing various excuses.

Finally, in May he reported the incident to the police and learned that his friend had sold the vehicle to a third party.

The value of the vehicle is estimated at around 10,000 euros.

An arrest warrant has been issued against the 40-year-old who is now wanted.

Think this has happened before. Also people renting out villas they were supposed to be looking after.

We left our car with a 'friend' in Paphos once when we went to the UK for Christmas.

We left the car in his parking space at the apartment where he lived, as he had kindly offered, and of course left the keys with him, foolishly in retrospect. We had known this man and his wife for years when we lived in the UK, the man having worked at the same place as my husband, and saw them quite a lot in Cyprus. Upon our return, we noticed a strange smell in the car similar to curry, which we thought was odd, and then found a piece of camping equipment underneath the front passenger seat, which certainly wasn't there before. When we queried this with our 'friend' he was adamant that the car had not been used at all and that it had never moved from its parking spot. We never did solve that one.

Moral of the story, check the mileage and petrol levels before leaving your car with anyone. Better still, leave your car locked up and take the keys with you too.

Back in the day my parents let a friend park his car on their drive back in the UK, weeks turned to months, they finally removed it after I threatened to get rid of it, the reason they kept it there was debt collectors were looking for the car to reprocess it,

There are many positives about Cyprus, Christmas however, is not one of them for me.

How you celebrate the supposedly birth of Jesus is up to you. In Cyprus, it is important only after Easter and 15 August and is thus widely celebrated within the church (probably more so than in England). Personally, for me, that is just one day like any other day before or after; the only concession I make to acknowledge it is to have a fillet of duck's breast for dinner as a family tradition.

Having lived in Cyrus for ten years, I do know how Easter is celebrated there. That said, it's pointless discussing the pros and cons of a British Christmas, which I prefer.

Aunt Bessy's frozen spuds and Eastenders, sounds more like torture than Christmas.
