Ok re-read your posts, and I'm confused as to why the German Constitutional Court did not rule on it, if they considered it to be illegal. Surely if it is illegal, then they should have ruled on it, or would any such ruling have been ignored by the EU ? Surely they must have guessed at the outcome when they referred it to the European Court ? Or am I missing something ?
Jackie
I´m not a lawyer and can´t judge whether they were formally right thinking that this was a matter beyond their jurisdiction but had to refer it to the European court.
What irks me though is that Germany is being blamed for controlling the ECB´s policies when in fact the contrary is true. Those policies are happening against Germany´s will because the debtor states have a majority in the ECB counsil. You Brits seem to have no idea what is going on in Germany. Banks have introduced negative interest rates i. e. you have to pay for being allowed to deposit your money. This isn´t very widespread yet for private customers (though it happens), but for companies it is. E. g. the biggest insurance company (Munich RE) has switched to no longer depositing cash in bank accounts but are now storing it themselves, life insurance companies are no longer offering their traditional life insurances because they cannot guarantee anymore the mandatory benefits. There are many retired people struggling because they saved all their lives and now in retirement need the interest income they counted on but which has vanished.
You're quite right that we Brits, at least one Brit, me, have no idea what is going on in Germany. Except the odd riot that seems to creep through via channels such as Facebook. We do not have news reports about the internal workings of the German banks such as you describe, and it must be very worrying for the retired, who were relying on their savings.
Perhaps if the powers that be were more transparent, we might not get the wrong idea.

"Do you mean, as the brexiteers regard any negative post Brexit posts?"
No axe to grind here whatsoever Jim. I just meant that I am so sick and fed up of continual cut n pastes of every single news item which MAY, JUST,POSSIBLY, PERHAPS point towards the horrendous decline the U.K. JUST MAY fall into due to Brexit. Until the negotiations are completed, indeed never mind even started, ITS ALL JUST SPECULATION, NOT ONE SINGLE WORD OF FACT.
SO WHAT THE HECK IS THE POINT???????
Maybe, just maybe I get it - so that the smug remainers can say on day zero - see, we wuz right!!
News for you all, it will take years and years to unwind the UK from the clutches of the EU, so for crying out loud, give us all some peace and quiet and wait until doomsday happens to start the crowing.
I hereby promise, if it all falls apart as you are all so damned fond of predicting, I will stand the drinks in the venue of your choice. If you all just shut the hell up with the perpetual cut n pastes in the meantime!!!

At last someone with some sense, I agree with you I hate the cut and paste brigade dont they have any thoughts of their own? Now im going to own up that I didnt vote, WHY well I dont think the man/woman in the street had enough information to be able to make a decision of in or out of the EU.

I realise that most who voted for Brexit don't like to read stuff - whether by link or cut'n'paste -which highlights negative and often unforeseen repercussions of Brexit; but providing the links are from quality publications as opposed to tabloids like The Express I think they have a very useful purpose to serve in the debate.
I might 'think' that the earth is square, or that Sterling will double in value tomorrow, but my thoughts are pretty much meaningless unless backed up by authoritative articles from good journals. And a lot of the news coming out daily is factual as opposed to idle conjecture or personal thoughts.
Well said Lloyd... Why anyone would want to ignore RELEVANT opinions - most often based on fact - is beyond me....
Maybe some people should read the Thread description and give it a bypass, if it incenses then so much.... It's called choice. Why deprive others, because of your own choice, when all you have to do is choose?
A bit like having 10 newspapers in a Hotel lobby. You choose which one to pickup and don't get riled by ones you don't like, as no one forces you to read....
Too many regard their own opinion as the choice for all....

Of course, and as the right wing tabloids rule in the UK atm, doesn't mean their opinions should dominate, far from it...so keep it up Lloyd. I enjoy reading them....I have many from the New European, brilliant newspaper on Europe..

Translation: "All the anti-Brexit media I read and watch are 'quality publications' and their output must be trusted implicitly as 'authoritative truth'...
... however, any articles from pro-Brexit media can be discounted as they are 'tabloids' (or worse!).
In addition, any negative news about the economy, jobs, trade, etc. is 'because Brexit' while any positive news about the economy, jobs, trade, etc. can be discounted because 'Brexit hasn't happened yet/negotiations haven't started yet, etc.'
I was tempted to link a 2 hours long video of a lecture of a University professor about the ECB and the Euro - in German. Wonder whether that would have gone down well if links to newspaper articles are already disliked
Two hours ! I don't think many would want to see it, even if they could understand it. As a matter of interest, if they did, who would claim it was proving their points, the remainers or the Brexiteers ?
Jackie
It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog.
They are newspaper articles, i.e. The opinions of journalists, facts they are not! How can they be, the negotiations haven't even started, let alone finished. Until then they are simply opinions, speculation, so what on earth is the point.
I base my opinions on straight facts , not speculation, not the opinions of journalists, whichever paper they write in, and definitely not the speculations of the keyboard warriors. Until Brexit becomes fact, not speculation I will wait. Many many other self opinionated knowalls would do well to do the same. At such point their 'knowledge' may well be shown for exactly what it is, simply speculation or the regurgitated opinions of self appointed journalistic 'experts' .
I agree HiC, the rise in food prices, energy bills, council tax etc is certainly not scare mongering, they are facts. The British consumer is in for a rough ride ahead, & having kept the economy buoyant previously with continued spending, they are starting to tighten their belts.
Life is not about waiting for the Storm to pass...
It is about learning to Dance in the Rain

"In that case Allan, by way of counterbalance, perhaps you could post links.........."
Aaaaggghhh!! No, no, no, Allan, pleeeease don't!
Dishing out instructions to your darling choirboys now Smudge ))
There is only one reason Jimgym won't post the good news - because there is next to none of it about following Brexit, as you well know. And that's hardly going to change this decade.
In a few years' time you will realise that. Things will slowly get worse and worse.
What sort of argument is that - "Don't read the news folks. Then everything will be fine"?? "Ignorance is bliss? "
Taken a trip on the train to Filey and buried your head in the sand ? (don't forget to change to Northern Trains on the way - beautiful journey, as I'm sure you're well aware ) )
An aside, but did you ever hear Francis Jackson at York Minster? He was brilliant. God bless him.
Now this is in the Telegraph, so it must be true!
None of your socialist rubbish there. No communist propaganda as found in The Independent, or the Trotskite Guardian. This is the Telegraph!!

Oh dear, please accept my heartfelt sympathies. Judging by your latest posts, they are obviously needed.
