On the 22nd August there was a fire between Pelathousa and Chrysochou. Thought to have started in an illegal dumping site, it soond spread, aided by high winds. Firefighters and residents managed to save the village. You can see from the film that it was attacked from above and below.
At this time of year, fires are unfortunately fairly common in Cyprus. Indeed, as I write this in Polemi, I can see big plumes of smoke coming from the direction of the Ezousa Valley. I hope that that is soon under control...

UPDATE
I just checked, and the fire is actually to the left of Psathi. I saw four fire engines on scene, along with two helicopters and two planes.

Another fire started by what sounds like pure carelessness. I hope that it will soon be extinguished, if it isn't by now. I hope that the people who started it have or will be found and punished. Also that there is no loss of life or property.
I also hope that some hot headed residents with land in the Akamas Forrest area won't start protest fires.
