Post by Paphos Life »

The island is in for a protracted heatwave that will carry through to next week, as temperatures settle in the 39 to 42 range over the next few days. I doubt it will get as hot as that in Polemi, but no doubt it will be very warm. There is a quite good breeze today but it is 33c outside and 31 inside. But we have all the doors open at the moment.

In this neck of the woods, right in the very middle of the Republic, at an altitude of nearly 300 m, the maximum temperature today was 37.3° C at 12:22. Compensated for altitude, this would suggest that the inland sea level temperature would have been between 38° and 38.5° C. It is probable that the official Max would be about 40° C because, for some reason, the Met office always chooses the temperature at Athalassa, which is inevitably higher by at least 1° than anywhere else on the island, ignoring the fact that all the several weather stations within a 100 km radius always indicate a lower temperature than at Athalassa. I have never understood this anomaly of the weather service.
