Stelios Kyriakides Stadium in coastal Paphos could soon become a modern, state of the art athletics center now that Russian investors are keen to take it over, Philenews reports.

Friday’s report also said that authorities appear positive over the takeover proposal by the Russian investors who bought, a year ago, Paphos FC.

Russian-Hungarian businessman Roman Dubov is the main investor in Paphos FC.

As for the Stelios Kyriakides Stadium proposal this provides for the use of the athletics centre for a total of 90 years.

And it is accompanied by plans for new facilities, which, if implemented, will pave the way for the island’s second-best stadium now holding 9,394 people.

It has a full-size running track around the outside of its football and rugby playing field and is used for many athletics events throughout the year.

Off topic I know, but this report brought it back to my mind.

Was there not talk sometime ago about some Russian businessman building a Theme park which was to straddle the "green line" in an effort to bring the two sides together again?

That would be interesting,
I can see the UN forces having a quick ride on the big dipper,
while observing both sides of the divide. :?

There's alot of work going on at the Pahos Mall. They were opening up the wall that faces on to the main road this morning.

No. The one that is by McDonald's on the road down from the motorway, it is supposedly becoming the new Super Home Centre and a new Lidl plus several other shops.

I knew about the new Superhome centre, but didn't know about Lidl opening there

Former Paphos Mall - next to McDonalds

'According to information from Alpha, the investors who bought Paphos Mall (Orphanides), are proceeding with a total facelift of the building in order to turn it into a shopping center.
There are three companies in the housing discussions with investors. These are the Superhome Center department store, the Lidl supermarkets as well as the French clothing company Kiabi, which recently opened its first store inside the Larnaca shopping center.
The project will be ready in about 8 months and will cover 8,000 square meters.
It will have an underground car park with a capacity of 600 cars and a floor for housing the shops'.

The new road that goes down the side of Paphos Mall is also being extended as a bypass past Geroskipou as there are large roadworks on the back road from Konia to Geroskipou Town centre.
There is also a lot of work going on for the new Polis Road at the back of Marathunta and West of the.Episkopi Road, there's a lot going on.

The cut through road from Anavargas past the General Hospital is closed at the Konia end in case it affects anyone.
