Public pays up millions in unpaid fines

Close to €7 million have been secured in state coffers from the execution of 45,283 fines over the past seven months, recent police data showed, while 1,039 jail terms have been issued. ...

Contrary to what some on here think, once you get a fine it doesn't go away , Back in the day I had two hairy arse coppers turn up on my door step over an unpaid parking fine, and A friend of ours refused to pay local cemetery taxes, their excuse was they didn't want to be buried here, long story short, years later tbey wanted to sell their house and move back to the UK. Yep all those unpaid taxes plus fines/charges had to be paid before they could sell.

Re cemetery tax. We don't pay that but we did have to sign a paper to say we did not want to be buried here.

Over this side that doesn't happen, in my own case, I got away with it for a few years, but one day a pleasant young lady turned up at my house, she came in and over a nice cup of coffee she showed me the papers the council lawyer had made ready to take me to court, so I paid up. This was thirty years ago,
