The Greenest Holiday Complex in Paphos ??

Post by cyprusmax47 »

Aliathon Hotel added recently 2 carports to their complex. However they are not normal ones as their roofs are made of photo-voltaic modules to produce even more electricity then they do already with various solar installation at their resort.
This time their installer used bifacial modules which are able to produce electricity from both sides, in order to increase and optimize the production of energy.

Here a short drone video from the two brandnew carports at their resort....

I forgot to mention that the size of the 2 carports together are 300 kWp on photo-voltaic modules which can produce more than 500.000 kWh electricity per year. This comes on top of the various installations at the Aliathon resort on roofs and free standing, which are already installed since years.

Here some close ups

Not sure, though I was one of the original group of people who was invited to come and test drive the brand new building, before it opened. We were very very impressed. The terminal seemed well designed and very compact. Only criticism that some people expressed, was whether it was big enough to accommodate any future increase of air traffic and people using it. Maybe PV provision would have been a good idea, but at the time that the airport was opened, electricity was quite cheap, especially compared with the current prices now charged. Maybe you are right , Mouse, but I don't remember this.

In 2006/2008 when the new terminal was built by Aristo Developers, prices for photo-voltaic modules were much much higher and the maximum size that time was only 225 Wp each module unlike today where 400-500 Wp are normally used for larger installations. I paid 2009 for a 20 Kwp system more than 75.000 Euro, which is 4 times more than nowadays....

We did this film for Green Air. I filmed it with my drone. There is an earlier one too which I will dig up later.

Have to say I was very impressed with the car port. When I visited Aliathon the first time it wasn't obvious what I was there for. It was only after I flew the drone around the entire area that I realised just how much panels they had there.

If anybody else wants to show off their business with the help of drone footage, get in touch!

It is certainly a good way to make use of an (almost) flat roof.

Since more than 12 years, Aliathon is on the "Green" path to use the power of the Cyprus Sun and produce hot water, electricity or running their pool pumps with Solar power. (Solar Pool pumps) All this was installed by Green Air Paphos, the experts for solar installations and more. The solar car port was their first installation in Cyprus and a good example for other hotels to follow...
