Does your last EAC bill looks wiggy?

Post by cyprusmax47 »

I am always check up my EAC electricity bills as their reading times varies a lot. Sometimes there are more than 10 days between the time the EAC man came for reading the meter and the time showing at the bills. So my recent bill looked at first normal, concerning the total amount to pay, (ca 10 Euro, thanks to my photo-voltaic installation) but when I looked at my consumption figures and the amount of kWh which I delivered to the grid, there was a large difference.

Finally I saw tiny tiny written: "E", which means the bill is estimated.

How they managed to work out that figure? Guessing! When you have a net-metering system and produce your electricity from PV modules on your roof or garden, it depends very much on the time of the year, temperature, sunshine hours, dust levels, humidity.... how much you produce and the time you have heavy loads (cooking, washing, air-con, pool pump etc) which deduct the kWh you deliver to the grid.

So, if you can detect 2 tiny "E" on your EAC bill you will have another surprise when you receive your next bill, and there is no estimation.... :)

Well, English is not my first language, but as far as I remember "wiggy" is slang and can mean strange as well. (I learned it from a British Ex-Army :lol:

The thing that amazes me is that the EAC have not yet realised that they can read the meters over the Internet without any human intervention.

Our meter man arrives more or less, on the same day every two months. We have never had an estimated bill. Last bill, €32, which was the same as last year even though we had used more electricity. 106 kwh through the meter and 295 solar units. If we had not had pv panels and net metering our bill would have been €245, in a bimonthly period which has the lowest consumption of the year.

Devil, the only way meters can be read remotely is with smart meters. Do not want to see them here in Cyprus. They will allow electric and gas companies to change the price of kwh used on a minute to minute basis. There is talk in the UK of having peak rates at certain times of the day and altering the price accordingly.

Take control of the situation, it takes 30 seconds to send a text with your reading, or readings in the case of net metering. We’ve always had to submit ourselves, previously by phone, as our meter is behind a gate we keep closed.

Send a text to +357 99 205394, in the following format leaving a space between each number:

Meter number import reading export reading

We get a text back confirming receipt.

Nicosia water board to save €240,000 a year by making bills digital
If a regional water Board can make that kind of saving by making bills digital, what would the EAC save?

I just send a photo of our meter on the 16th of even numbered months to Maria at EAC. No more estimated bills, perhaps the meter man was wary of our dog.

When the last meter reader called at our place he was carrying a big hefty stick as he came down the drive to read the meter. The stick was kept in the vehicle cab and was in case of unruly dogs. Our dog was out but would never hurt anyone, and I am not just saying that without giving it thought

This site sounds like an informal arrangement, but what is the email for Maria?

The option to submit meter reading using a photo used to be part of the functionality of the EAC app but seems to have been dropped, or extremely well hidden.

In my experience any email sent to the customer services email address that comes with the bill, if related to a property under EAC Paphos, is responded to by Maria, probably the same one referred to above.

When we first had net metering we were also to call Maria but eventually I just used the standard customer services number and now the text service. Never had to wait for more than 5 mins but the text service is less than a minute.

Earlier in the year people on various FB groups were commenting that they could send their electricity meter reading via WhatsApp

Reference to a pilot scheme introduced in 2020 but not sure if this is the same thing: https://www.eac.com.cy/EN/RegulatedActi ... Reader.pdf

The number to WhatsApp a photo of your meter reading, meter number and account number to in order to get a revised bill is :
+357 99 205394
I did just that in March following an order of magnitude out estimated bill end of Feb and received a reply straight away.
I doubt this is a number just for my area, Tala, but suspect it may be just for the Paphos region.

This is the link for those who want to use the online submission to help avoid estimated bill. I imagine the meter 2 field is for the export number for those of us with net metering, probably wise to mention that in the text box to make sure;

https://www.eac.com.cy/EN/RegulatedActi ... ading.aspx

And this is the pdf from that page that links through to alternative submission methods, note that there are different contact details for each EAC district;

It is actually not correct from EAC, when they issue an estimated bill due to their laziness or whatever reason and then they charge you for meter reading as well. My meter is easy to access, right on the road, (they can stop with their car in front of the meter box) no dogs around, only cats :roll:
I wonder if they charge you also when one supplies them online with the readings...

Thanks to all for that info. In view of the multiple ways of submitting readings, I decided to ring the contact centre and ask. Our last bill was dated 23 April, and we have net metering. The contact centre said: Send two photos (one import and the other export) to this Viber number: 99 205 394 (the same number given in this thread). He said to do this on 23 June exactly, not before or after. I also looked at the EAC website but could only find one field to enter a meter reading---we need two fields because we have net metering.

I had looked into this matter before, but when you call the contact centre, the automatic system does not give you an option to speak to someone about billing or meter reading, so I hung up. This time, I just chose option three (tree falling incidents!), and the phone staff were able to answer my question.
