No respite from rising energy prices is expected; following warnings of new increases in fuel prices, the Electricity Authority of Cyprus told customers their power bills would not drop before next year.
Talking to CyBC radio on Wednesday, EAC’s spokesperson Christina Papadopoulou said electricity bills will not fall before March 2023.
Papadopoulou said that electricity bills in Cyprus saw a 48% increase as the cost of fuel rises, with the Authority paying hefty penalties for its high dependence on fossil fuels.

And part of our predicament here is its not just the war in Ukraine which is causing this rise in electricity prices.. but the dirty old electricity generators burning heavy fuel oil which EAC are still using.. why should they care when its the consumer who has to pay for this fact. Which they are now openly blaming as part of the crippling increase in electricity prices.
So what will happen to people next winter who haven't got photo voltaic systems, who can't afford to buy electricity for heating their homes?

In a nutshell. As ever there are oil companies who have expressed an interest having completed exploration for gas in some of the lots on offer, but their explorations are hampered by the North / Turkey's claim to some of the gas which is there. But, resolution and the construction of a gas pipeline and also liquified gas storage facilities in Cyprus, as I understand it, are mired up in politics and the non resolution of the Cyprus problem.

The Energy Minister’s remarks sound very encouraging, but I would be interested to know when the storage facilities for bulk storage of LPG are actually starting construction?
An article which I read recently in Sunday Mail,painted a slightly different picture. It be said that there were problems building the floating gas tank, as the contract had been given to a Chinese Const. Co. who had no experience in this field. Also there were problems building a reinforced jetty near Vassiliko strong enough to tether a floating gas tank to.
Then, the EU turned down an application for funds to build a gas supply pipe line via Crete to Athens. as it was far too expensive, and a pipeline via Turkey would be both much cheaper and quicker to build…
