Do you have a link to that information pls?

EDIT:- I found it. ( I think :? )

https://cyprusdriving.net/driving-licen ... rs-of-age/

The information in this page refers to FULL non-vocational driving licences.
The earliest a driving licence renewal application can be made is within the last month before the expiry of the old one.

You should receive an SMS when licence is ready to be picked up.

The validity of my German driver license will expire (I think) next year due to some EU regulation. In Germany (where driver licenses are valid until you kick the bucket) that would mean I´ll still be allowed to drive, but have no proof of that. In practical terms this means in case I´ll get caught I´d only have to pay a small fee (like when you forgot your license at home) but my insurance cover wouldn´t end. Will this be the same if I get caught in Cyprus?

I was under the impression that after being here for six months everyone needed to get a Cypriot licence.

I think that rather than asking the question on a Forum and relying on an answer from a member, you should ask at the District Offices of the Department of Transport..

That would come with the risk of that I don´t like the answer. Which would make it more difficult to ignore it.

Not true for EU citizens. But I couldn´t renew it in Germany without being registered as resident there. Which I could do, but it would be a hassle.

There is only one legal answer, it is then everyone's choice if they then ignore it or not.

For some reason, jeba (and maybe others) seem reluctant to change to a Cypriot licence.. As far as I know, it would be valid in all other countries. We are left to guess why people do not want to have a Cypriot Licence

There is a simple reason: German driver licenses don´t expire until the holder dies and by default there are no tests required, medical or otherwise, to keep them alive until your death, even if you pass the 100-year mark (except licenses for trucks, buses etc). They aren´t valid in all other countries though, but only within the EU. Outside the EU you need an international driving license which will be issued even to non-residents by the authority which issued the national license and which has to be renewed every 3 years (which in the case of the authority which issued mine can be done via mail).

All very well telling us, how it works in Germany,
in my opinion not having to have a test how ever old you are is insanity?
but you are a permanent resident of Cyprus,
and as such, Cyprus laws apply to you now, not German laws.

Well, the question was why I don't want to swap my German license and I answered it. According to EU regulations I can keep my German license and that's what I'll do. What's your problem?
