Many people like to have some hours on the sunbed (I certainly do) in our Cyprus summer, but is it healthy?
I found this video clip which gave me some more information about it and I thought I share it here on the forum as well.

Re: Sunlight and your Health...
So, the UV-B concentration in Paphos p.e. at the beach is at these days from 10 AM to 4 PM the highest. So be careful concerning skin cancer. However concerning Vitamin D, your body can produce in less than 20 minutes sun exposure at these hours as much as 15-20.000 IU's through your skin, providing you did not use sun protection cream. In this case no need to buy Vit D pills which come normally with a dose of 1000 IU each.

The only thing which puzzled me was the study which showed that over a long period of time giving test persons Vitamin D pills with only 800 IU daily, when the body is able to produce from sunshine 15-20.000 IU in app 20 minutes. Why not using higher dosage for the study?

Re: Sunlight and your Health...
High levels of vitamin D in the blood can lead to toxicity and a build-up of calcium. The body naturally regulates the amount of vitamin D produced from sunlight so that you get the right amount, but it can't do that with large amounts from supplements. You shouldn't overdo vitamin D supplementation, and 800 IU should be plenty.cyprusmax47 wrote: ↑Fri May 13, 2022 7:43 amThe only thing which puzzled me was the study which showed that over a long period of time giving test persons Vitamin D pills with only 800 IU daily, when the body is able to produce from sunshine 15-20.000 IU in app 20 minutes.
