Kindle unavailable?

Post by kansas »

We've noticed for the last few months at least that Amazon has no kindles for sale. Does anyone know the reason behind this, i.e. supplier problems, discontinued the range?

Thanks

I believe if you live in Cyprus and want Kindle from Amazon that you have to buy from Amazon.com

Check if you have a Cyprus for delivery address many Items dont show up on Amazon UK, change to a UK address and they will show up.

It isn't just Amazon UK. This happens on a lot of Amazon sites if you have a Cyprus address.

I got my first Kindle (Keyboard version) in 2011 when we were living in Cyprus and had to order from USA.
It came via courier and I tracked it all the way.
Took around 4 or 5 days, delivery to my door at Easter.

I replaced it in 2020 with the Paperwhite version (not the one that says it's waterproof) and I love it.

It's smaller than my old one and perfect for travelling. I wouldn't be without one.

Thanks for the replies. I just ordered a Paperwhite for delivery to a friend in the UK who is coming out late next week. I've ordered several in the past and had them delivered to the UK, as they could not deliver to Cyprus. Now, however, if your default address is Cyprus the site doesn't let you choose a Kindle and then a UK delivery address. Instead it says they are temporarily out of stock. I had to choose a UK delivery address while logging on and then they were in stock!

When the Kindle (my fifth) arrives it won't be used to download books from Amazon. I prefer to source free MOBI & EPUB titles and convert using Calibre (also free). I have been doing this since my first Kindle quite a few years ago.

Me too! I still use Calibre as well for downloaded content conversation.

I also get lots of kindle free books via a social media book content on FB which shares new, reduced and free books in their feed.

It gives me the opportunity to try some different authors.
The links do take you through to Amazon UK but I never had any problems downloading to my UK account when we lived in Cyprus.

This is great for free books. All the most popular authors and up to date books. Might be difficult to put on a kindle as opposed to an ordinary Android tablet. It's called chapter 1 and is in the playstore
If the downloads come in pdf or epub format, you can convert them to the correct format for your Kindle device with the Calibre software as mentioned above, then you move them to your Kindle device storage or can send them to your Kindle email address.

Yes, but as long as the file is in the correct format type for your Kindle model, there's nothing to stop it being moved onto it by a file transfer.

Basically, Calibre is similar to what you're doing but it's software rather than an app plus the screen on a kindle reader is much more user friendly on the eyes than reading on a tablet / iPad.

The file comes from a torrent site such as pirate bay or Lime Torrent. Calibre is a means of downloading from these sites and converting to a format which can be transferred to your Kindle.

You can read all about Calibre through the link below and the video on the initial page from the creator of the software.

Les Bean wrote: Fri Apr 15, 2022 10:48 am Some confusion here🤔. I'm not interested in putting books onto a Kindle, just posted that the chapter1 app imo is great for free books but to download to an actual Kindle as opposed to an unadulterated tablet is problematic
You need to explain what the problem is that you're having, then!
