Coronavirus: Unless further setbacks, Covid will be treated like the flu, adviser says

I'm impressed that you even bothered reading through all that Steve. I stopped when it was apparent that Limassol was being held up as a model of how to live through the pandemic. I swear he types so much to send himself to sleep in the early hours.

I would not be able to eat at my tavern in Timi without showing rapid test yesterday!
After a visit of Limassol, the owner of Konia pharmacy got Covid infected and she believes she got it from there. So she had to close the pharmacy for one week. Of course she was "boostered" and had not to go to hospital, but her symptoms were really strange: no fever, no cough, but all her muscles were stiff and she could hardly walk for 2 days...
By the way here the official stats from the Gov. updated yesterday and showing Limassol the worst town in Cyprus...

My Son in Law went down with a bout of Shingles last week when recovering from Covid.
His Doctor informed him that Shingles is presently quite rampant in Cyprus and thought to be a side effect of Covid.
Anyway he's been really ill with it and he's a fit forty year old.

Maybe it would then be a good idea to lower the recommended age for the shingles vaccine? Epidemiologists should look into that, given the high prevalence of covid.

The Cyprus Mail article went on to say:Happy in Cyprus wrote: ↑Tue Mar 22, 2022 3:41 am And on the very day I made my post it appears from the Cyprus Mail:
"Some members of the committee were reported to be in favour of small relaxations, including doing away with mandatory outdoor masking, reducing testing frequency and relaxing some SafePass requirements".
Just what I was calling forWhat a coincidence. So maybe my views aren't so extreme after all

After the meeting of the committee the Cyprus Mail article was updated:Cyprus Mail wrote:Others believe that the number of cases is very high, therefore they argue new relaxations will give the impression that the pandemic is ending, which is not the case.
andCyprus Mail wrote:No further relaxations of the coronavirus measures are expected, a health ministry official said after members of the scientific advisory committee evaluated the current epidemiological picture in Cyprus...

There is still hope the updated Biontech vaccine specifically being developed specifically for the Omicron variant will provide sufficient immunity even without having to get infected. It was expected to be available by March/April, but that was postponed by probably 2 months, according to Biontech´s CEO. Let´s hope it won´t be delayed any further (which seems a real possibility, given that Moderna´s equivalent failed to be effective). Personally, I had planned to drop any protective measures (at least those not legally required) and going to the gym again, following my booster vaccination, but then decided to wait for the updated vaccine once I heard they were expecting it to be available relatively soon.Happy in Cyprus wrote: ↑Tue Mar 22, 2022 3:41 am So, like it or not, we are going to have to acquire herd immunity, as vaccines can only do so much. We cannot acquire herd immunity unless people catch Covid. And if they have to catch it, it's better they do so with a relatively mild variant.
That I completely agree with. It has always been pointless unless you were in close proximity to others.Happy in Cyprus wrote: ↑Tue Mar 22, 2022 3:41 am being required to wear a mask when out in the open is utterly, utterly pointless.
Re: Coronavirus: Unless further setbacks, Covid will be treated like the flu, adviser says
The rule about wearing masks out in the open I think is a a bit like the 100 KPH limit on the Motorways, most people ignore it and so do the Police until you start doing 121KPH and the same happens where you wear a mask. The Police will generally ignore people walking in the open without a mask but quite rightly come down hard where it matters.
I think it plays to the local mentality in that they like to push authority and authorities know where and when to be flexible.

Very few people wear masks outdoors. That is a complete red herring.Happy in Cyprus wrote: ↑Tue Mar 22, 2022 3:41 am being required to wear a mask when out in the open is utterly, utterly pointless.

Where does it say that in the report?Tanny wrote: ↑Wed Mar 23, 2022 6:21 amAbsolutely, those who are unable to make the decision freely. The UK gov now recognizes that after a second dose of the vacx, the body can not recover sufficient of its own immune system to fight an infection creating a bigger problem for the future. The people I feel most sorry for are my grandkids
Week 42 report confirms this.
And so many people really want new borns to be injected.

And when I meet customers in their homes, no-one but no-one wears masks or observe social distancing, nor do contractors on-site (though they are required to wear a mask driving to and from site, lol). And when I greet customers and contractors now, the first thing they do is outstretch to shake hands.
Wearing masks outside of supermarkets, food shops and pharmacies is nothing more than theatre and needs to come to a end. Most people have had enough... and even the experts acknowledge this.
And if people feel happier wearing masks and washing paper money, coins and groceries, let them.
As for washing paper money, coins and groceries - It works for me!
Oh, and you forgot to mention the social distancing.
Strange how no one in our social circle has got Covid and yet between us we are a selection of boostered, vaccinated, unvaccinated and medically exempt individuals who meet out for lunch and drinks.
Re: Coronavirus: Unless further setbacks, Covid will be treated like the flu, adviser says
We are still wearing masks when we are out in different shops. And we are still wiping down the shopping before it is put away

Seems to me that anyone who is not totally honest can have a few days off work, claiming that they have Covid. I just wonder how many fake cases there are.

My daughter and 10 year old granddaughter were tested positive this morning. My Son in Law with Shingles has had to go and live at his parents as the doctors are concerned about more complications from Covid.
Our youngest granddaughter who is two is our major concern as she was born with a lung condition and the Doctors believe she will also develop Covid.
There's alot of "At Risk" people out there and we should try and help rather than spend time whinging about the inconvenience of wearing a mask when in the big picture it's nothing to write home about.

Not sure if your family are in the UK or not, but right now in the UK it seems that Covid is rife in schools, and generally that is where the most infections are coming from. Children can be required to wear masks in school, but what happens after school when the masks come off, they do what children do.
I can appreciate and sympathize with, your concerns, but would the risks to your family be the same if it were a flu epidemic ? My son, his wife and children all had Covid over Christmas, my daughter, her husband and children have all escaped the virus so far, why is beyond me, when only one of the family can work from home.
I do hope that your family all recover well, and that your youngest granddaughter escapes the virus.

Lloyd there's a myriad of nonsensical laws in most countries but people don't make a song and dance about them and tend to ignore them like eating mince pies on a Christmas day is illegal in England but people tend to ignore it. Shooting Welsh men with a crossbow in Chester on a Unday is legal but people tend not to bother because the law is absurd but its there.
