Well, well, well. I wonder if that could be the "El Hossum" Coptic gale, which normally arrives on, let me see, 10th March.

And yesterday was 10th March. Ooops!

Sorry! That doesn't hold water. Where are your Coptic gales supposed to come from? Obviously from the region where the Copts live, n'est-ce pas? Well, where do they live? S.Egypt and Sudan mainly. So, if there were such a thing as a Coptic gale, it would be coming from the south. It is such a pity that this current gale comes from the north-east and therefore cannot be Coptic. Oops!

There was a storm last week too. Why wasn't that one Coptic? Let's face it, predicting a storm this year has been a lot easier than predicting a sunny day.

As a weatherman Devil, you should know that Cyprus has always suffered from Coptic storms. Where do you suppose the sand we find on our cars during some such storms originates? Mainly NE Africa, but can be from the Sahara, as analysis has showed. You will also note (from the table below) that storms can arrive from different directions; the designation Coptic does not mean they have to originate in Egypt. They are simply a weather phenomena peculiar to our region and are referred to as Coptic storms.

That's a false equivalence. Nobody is denying the existence of gales from Africa bringing sand with them. The notion that they do so to a set calander is demonstrably false though. Just as a stopped clock is right twice a day, you can pick a few random dates throughout the winter and spring period and you will have your very own coptic calendar. And yes, occasionally it will be right, especially when it is a bad winter. But when it is a good winter, it will be wrong.

Besides, the worst of the dust in previous years has arrived outside the active periods of the coptic calendar.
