Hearing aids
Hello,
My mother needs a hearing aid, any idea roughly what the various types cost in Cyprus? Also does being registered with Gesy cut any ice?
Thank you

Re: Hearing aids
If not in GESY is it possible to buy spare tubes and domes for hearing aids and if so where please?
Re: Hearing aids
There is a 'hearing aid centre' not far from the General Hospital.. As you turn off the road with the General Post Office on it, heading for the Hospital, it is with other shops on the Right Hand Side

Re: Hearing aids
I don't know of anyone who has done this, but if you are a pensioner and have your hearing tested by a GESY specialist doctor, there is a scheme whereby you can get part of the cost of the hearing aid(s) refunded. There is a form that has to be completed and sent to the Ministry of Health for evaluation.

Re: Hearing aids
Both myself and my wife have done this.
It amounts to approx €150.00 per order ( not per ear )
I received back from Gov approx €150.00 for 1 hearing aid.
My wife received back from Gov approx €150.00 for 2 hearing aids.

I got some for my husband from Hearing direct in UK. They send them over after you emsil the test results. They are set up accordingly and evey yearly test you csn email and send the aids back post free for adjustment. Thry come back like new.. Also sell accessories. Thry are less than half than any you will find in Cyprus.

Re: Hearing aids
How long are you without hearing aids when you send them back to UK?
The hearing centre that I use in Paphos do adjustments on the spot at an appointment.
Re: Hearing aids
I don't honestly know I have never imported hearing aids. But the charge is not on the size of an Item, but it's value including the P&P
But I imported an electric shaver head foil a few weeks ago. The cost was around 32 pounds.
When all the charges were added on, the total was 54 euros.

Re: Hearing aids
It was before Brexit but once they have been used, is there an import charge? They were away about a week. I am sure they would advise if you contact them.

It is sad that hearing aids are not included in the Gesy system, even with the recipient paying something towards them

Re: Hearing aids
Gesy has been the best thing to ever happen in Cyprus, but it cannot continue as it is, the majority of people have been abusing it, for example before Gesy if someone e had a cough, they would go to the chemist and buy a bottle of cough syrup , and not go and visit a GP and pay 50e, now its off to see the GP demanding Blood tests etc, Before gesy a hip transplant would cost you ten grand now it will cost you ten pound, gesy is on its knees and needs more money, this will be passed on to the public, but my guess is it will be done after the presidential elections.. who told me this a doctor who is a family friend of ours
Re: Hearing aids
The doctors also need controls on them, my wife pre gesy visited the heart specialists evey six months, for a check up etc, since gesy he wants to see her every three months, thankfully nothing has got worse in her medical condition, so we are thinking its a chance for him to increase his income, so if his doing this to my wife , how many other patients has he done it do? Then multiply it by all the other specialists, trying it on, then we have some of the answer why gesy needs a massive influx of new money.Les Bean wrote: ↑Wed Jan 11, 2023 9:42 amValid points. I think the specialist fee should be raised to €10 from 6.a&e to 12.WHL wrote: ↑Wed Jan 11, 2023 9:25 amGesy has been the best thing to ever happen in Cyprus, but it cannot continue as it is, the majority of people have been abusing it, for example before Gesy if someone e had a cough, they would go to the chemist and buy a bottle of cough syrup , and not go and visit a GP and pay 50e, now its off to see the GP demanding Blood tests etc, Before gesy a hip transplant would cost you ten grand now it will cost you ten pound, gesy is on its knees and needs more money, this will be passed on to the public, but my guess is it will be done after the presidential elections.. who told me this a doctor who is a family friend of ours
Re: Hearing aids
So I'm in the heart specialists this morning for my annual check up, in the waiting room when a bloke walks in and wants to make an appointment, the receptionist asks him do you have a note from the GP? no says he she will not give me one, why not says the receptionist?
The GP says I dont need to see a specialist, but I know my heart isn't right, so you will have to pay to see the specialist , but im with Gesy says the bloke, this went on for several minutes, voices raised until the specialist came out and told him , either he leaves or the police will be called, speaking to the Dr later he told me that the authorities are clamping down on who sees specialists, good to see they are doing something about it.
