Spring on the way....

Post by cyprusmax47 »

Even when swallows are obviously late this year (normally they start nesting at my fish tavern in the first week in February, but still not today!) there are little signs that spring is on the way. Also the days are much longer already, however the temperatures are quite low in the night.

So I had a little look today what the orchids are doing up in the hills...

Unfortunately the places I normally find them in the middle of thyme bushes only other flowers were growing

however it is still nice to see flowers after that cold January

finally before I gave up I found some nice looking ones

perhaps it needs another week of sunshine for the other ones to appear

Small numbers of Barn Swallows have been around for the last couple of weeks, as have numbers of Crag Martin and Little Swift.

perhaps they are permanent in your area.? I can remember seeing swallows end of December in the Limni mine/Argaka dam a couple of years ago...

Certainly no swallow action in our porch yet. Mind you, the cats could be scaring them off...

I am quite sure that the swallows will arrive earlier at the Timi beach than up at your place in Polemi, above 400 m sea level. How was it last year as I think you had already the cats?

Oh we had swallows last year, but the cats weren't that big then.
