Asprokremmos Overflowing - Film

Post by Dominic »

The Asprokremmos has overflowed again. I filmed it on Wednesday morning (not tuesday, as I incorrectly state in the film) and give you a brief walking tour of the dam.

To be honest with all the rain we had overnight I was hoping for a bit more ooomph. I got some nice footage down at the coast though, which will make a couple of films.

I might call by for a look on my way back from a Limmasol trip later this week, what’s the parking like - mud or tarmac?

It depends on when you go really. If it is hugely busy I would park further down the road and walk up. I would turn the car round first too. But I was there early morning, so there weren't many people about. You can see where I parked from the film.

If you don't mind a little walk you can also park on the other side of the dam wall. Take the next road up, to Choletria, drive up a little way then turn left where there is a mobile stand with "road closed". You can drive round the sign as far as the dam wall, then park there and walk across. You get the lovely views across the dam and down to the sea as you walk across. There'll probably be other cars parked there if you go at the weekend (yesterday lunchtime there were only 2), but not nearly as many as the other side.

Called by this morning. Plenty of parking space, this weekend may be different. The overflow is a pretty impressive sight.

The main thing is that the dam is full! Which is always a good omen, especially with the amount of construction going on as well, plus hopes that this year the tourists will return en masse...

Hopefully the hotels or the tourist authority will advertise for hotel staff in those countries who tended to provide staff. Plus an improvement in their previously meagre wages maybe an improvement in their accommodation. That might be wishful thinking..
Also, I did read in the local press that a number of Turkish Cypriots were also looking for jobs in the south.
