Ten people and one business owner were reported by police for violations of Covid-19 measures during the 24 hours leading up to 6am on Thursday.
The fines came after 2,471 checks throughout the island.
A police spokesman told the Cyprus News Agency that in Nicosia, from 1,330 checks there were no reports while in Limassol after 146 checks, four citizens and one business owner were reported. In Larnaca the police conducted 455 checks and two people were fined, while in Famagusta 347 checks saw two people fined. The police made 59 checks in Paphos where two citizens were fined.
At a carpet store in Limassol, inspections identified a customer without a valid SafePass who was then fined €500.

Yes, certainly they should. I have been in a number of stores in Paphos recently and one in particular does not check to see people have a pass.
At the Iasis my pass was checked and I also had to show some ID.

Nearly 2,500 checks performed and only 11 people fined seems a lot of effort for very little results, or are most people doing what they're supposed to do?
In the Spanish tourist resorts, the police are going about this business with great alacrity but many complaints have been made by bar owners that their premises are having 5+ visits per day whilst others nearby are receiving just one or none at all...

2.500 checks performed and only 11 people fined, tells me that most people are adhering to the law, and dont want to be fined.PhotoLady wrote: ↑Thu Dec 23, 2021 11:08 am Nearly 2,500 checks performed and only 11 people fined seems a lot of effort for very little results, or are most people doing what they're supposed to do?

Whether they should have been checked or not is irrelevent. They went in without a safepass. It's on their head.

My hairdresser would like to have a receptionist, but although she could afford to pay her, she says the business can't afford the extra costs involved in paying the high social insurance costs as well. So she manages without extra staff. Although she does have another hairdresser working with her. They just try to help each other out, answering the phone and checking safe passes especially if it isn't one of her regulars..

Does the rule still apply that if there are 10 or less people on the premises including staff that there is no need for a SafePass?
Not seen it mentioned for some time in the various announcements, updates and clarifications.

Yes, I think that it does, at least in hairdressers who may or may not have this number of clients in the shop when they are busy. Also in kiosks (peripteros).
