Man arrested for fatal hit and run (update 2)
A 44-year-old man was arrested in connection with a hit-and-run on Sunday evening that resulted to the death of a 60-year-old pedestrian, police said on Monday.
Androula Papachristoforou was trying to cross Priamou street in Paphos at around 9.15pm when under conditions that are being investigated she was hit by a car whose driver fled the scene.
Police on Monday afternoon said they arrested a 44-year-old man in connection with the case. He is being investigated for manslaughter, causing death by negligence and abandoning the scene of the accident.
Earlier in the day, police said they were looking for the driver of the car that hit the woman.
Papachristoforou was rushed by ambulance to Paphos general hospital where about two hours later, she succumbed to her wounds.
According to the Cyprus News Agency, CCTV footage in the area reportedly showed a male driver getting out of the car. When he saw the injured woman he grabbed his head with his hands, but then climbed back into his car, reversed and drove away.
Police had called for help from the public to help locate the driver.
This was the second fatal traffic accident in the district over the last 24 hours. Earlier on Sunday, at around 7.30am, Briton Christopher Simmons, 26, died on Ayios Georgios Peyias avenue.

Where was this road in Paphos? As I couldn't work it out from your description a "big road with 2 kiosks". I agree with you about the poor lighting on some roads in Paphos, as this can make pedestrians difficult to see. Also the habit of many people of wearing black clothes doesn't help in making them visible. I think that wearing high visibility clothing, jackets and trousers would help. The over bright headlights on many cars can dazzle the eyes of approaching drivers which again may cause a safety hazard to other road users.
All of these could be improved with small changes.

I find drivers tend to drive too fast in that section and some calming measures are needed. There used to be plastic road humps on all the main routes through Universal but they fell into disrepair and eventually disappeared.
