New Covid-19 measures over Xmas festivities to be announced Tuesday

Post by memory man »

The number of people in social gatherings over Christmas will be 20 but whether that will remain the same for New Year’s Eve’s festivities remains to be seen.

This will be determined by the state of play of the Covid-19 spread all across Cyprus, Philenews reported on Tuesday hours before Cabinet meets to decide on additional measures over the holidays.

Health Minister Michalis Hadjipantelas is set to announce final decisions by noon on Tuesday.

On Monday, health ministry officers and the scientific advisory committee discussed suggestions to be submitted to Cabinet.

Insiders said that among the suggestions is extending the school holidays to January 10 from January 7.

The requirement for a rapid test not older than 48 hours for all pupils and teachers on the first day back is also on the table.

Moreover, weekly rapid tests for those vaccinated with two doses is also a suggestion, along with 24-hour rapid tests for the unvaccinated.

And 48-hour rapid tests or self-tests for the vaccinated to be able to take part in social gatherings.
