Bravo Max Verstappen, winner F1 2021

Post by cyprusmax47 »

The ever first Dutch F1 Champion, Max Verstappen won the final race in the last lap, very dramatic, very emotional...
The Mercedes team gambled with the tyre decision and lost.!

According to twitter there was blatant cheating on the final lap.

I have no axe to grind either way, and am not interested one iota in motor racing. But what was all that about?

A travesty of justice, the last lap was like carrying a knife at the OK coral!

The result should in fairness be voided.

Yay! I caught up with the race after the safety car was just going in and all hell let loose.
I was in the sports room of our working men's club doing a happy dance.
Most of the guys in there weren't best pleased 😜

Sadly, no more dry quips from the Iceman from his cockpit but I'm sure we will be seeing lots more of him!

Years ago my wealthy brother in law took me to a race, never been so bored in my whole life, cars going round in a circle, blowing the wax out of your ears, Monaco was nice thou.

I think this story has a bit of a way to go as Mercedes are not going to let it lie.
Whether you like or dislike Hamilton or Verstappen it's immaterial, the powers that be changed the rules while the race was running to favour one driver over another according to the reports and Mercedes are taking their case to the International Court of Arbitration.
I stopped watching it years ago as it just became to my mind, so boring.

Must agree that the Monaco City circuit is quite boring as there is no real chance to overtake. But there are other places in the world where it can be quite exciting, specially when the weather is changing and rain sets in. Same with football, some matches are really boring, specially when they have to play in empty stadiums.

Not that interested in F1 more a footie man myself, but using a football analogy it seemed like the referee changed the rules in the last minute of the season to avoid a dull finish and elected to settle the season with a penalty shoot out........................with only one team allowed to use a goalie !!!

We went to see the F1 at Spa back in the late 90s. I used to watch the racing on TV every Sunday and got up at weird early morning times to watch.

I love speed so motorsports and motorcycle events are much more appealing than ball games to me.

I stopped watching F1 when we moved to Cyprus 2004.
Couldn't stand having to watch footage from one country and sound feed from another in the sports bars we tried.

The more I watch the reruns of the race the more I beleive Hamilton was cheated of another title.

I think both drivers have been cheated, neither did anything wrong.
It was down to one man who decided to try and turn the end of the race into a spectacle rather than let it run down to its final conclusion.

if the final lap was carried out with safety car, yes hamilton would have won, but as it's supposed to be a race, officials decided the last lap would be a race, when safety car exited Louis was in front, but he should have boxed for a Tyre change but he did not want to lose his present position, so max had better grip with the earlier Tyre change and Louis didn't stand a chance, the last lap was the best part of the race.

Trouble was it wasn't a fair race, Verstappen was always going to win on fresh tyres. If the race Director wanted a race he should have red flagged it, let both drivers change tyres and re-start from the grid. If Vestappen had won under those circumstances it would have been far easier for people to accept it.
As it is, his title will always be tainted through no fault of his own.

You seem to forget / ignore that there were cars between Louis and Max.. At first race control said they would stay where they were behind Hamilton, so Max would have to get past them..
But then there was a 'change of mind' and they were allowed to go through past Hamilton, bringing Max right up behind the Louis, the lead car..
