Another walk. Sodap Beach to Chloraka

Post by Anarita John »

At the end of November I walked from where Savvas's kiosk used to be, next to the Imperial Hotel, to Chloraka. The last time I tried this walk, I could only get as far as the beach past the Elysium Hotel, and then it was road.

I usually walk from the Phaethon Beach Hotel, round the headland to St Nicholas's Church and then along the coast path in front of the hotels to the harbour. There and back is just under 6 miles.

St Nicholas's Church. Within walking distance from all the hotels on the east side of Pahos. When we first came on holiday, 20 years ago, there was no real coastal path and it was a scramble over rough ground. The path is now brilliant and is well used by both holidaymakers and locals.

The fort at the harbour. Even though it was the end of November, there were still quite a few tourists about.

Looking towards Peyia. The big view, which estate agents used to use when selling houses along the coast, (but looking the other way)

The path from the harbour to Lighthouse Beach. By the way, the toilets at Lighthouse Beach belong to the Municipality of Paphos, so are free to use, and you do not have to buy a drink.

When this path was first constructed, local schools had input in designing some of the mosaics on the path. They were brilliant, and really caught our daughter's attention when she was primary school age. Most have now disappeared as the path has needed maintainance, but a few are left, including some weightlifting weights and SANTA spelt on the path.
We really enjoyed walking the path during Paphos's European Year of Culture, when, again, local schools displayed various art displays along the path.

It was a really clear day and the island off off Agios Georgios (Yeronisos) was visible.

Lighthouse Beach. The Kefalos Beach Tourist Village had closed for the winter, and refurbishment work had begun.

The path takes you through the grounds of the Elysium Hotel, which was still open.

From the Elysium Hotel the path becomes a rough track, but much improved from a few years ago. It will eventually be improved. However, it is walkable with no sudden surprises. This section runs parallel with the Tombs of the Kings site.

Really good weather for the end of November and locals and tourists making the most of the sunshine.

When I last walked this path, this was as far as I got, as the path had been blocked off and I had to make my way to the main road. Now it is open beyond this point.

A really interesting coast and I was enjoying my walk. Good paths in front of the hotels and the rough paths have been improved.

Great pictures!

It’s a walk we do often. Although we generally go inland after the Kefalos Beach and go to Gustoso for lunch!

Just after this pont, the path had not been built yet. However, I could see people walking near the coast on the other side so it was a case of finding where the path continued.

The new path will run in front of this Leptos estate.

So now it was off the path and through a building site. I was very impressed with the facilities. Brilliant to see a wash basin next to the loo.

Then a short walk through the new estate. I knew from a previous bike ride that I had to go up these steps to pick up the coast path. I had walked down them previously. Unfortunately, no signs, so when I was on my bike, I didn't find the previous bit of the path and ended up on TOTK Road.

Now back on the coast path, and a modern sculpture in memory of George Grivas, plus a statue.

Lovely photos, many thanks for posting! An interesting walk, i have done sections of it.
Usually much quieter than the part of the walk along the Gereskipou -Paphos coast.

Yes nice touch providing the workers with a washbasin next to the portaloo...........................................although with the villas priced at circa 5 million, I guess they could afford it !!
