Elderly couple seriously injured in road accident

An elderly couple suffered serious injuries after being run over by an on-coming vehicle.

They were rushed to the Paphos General Hospital following the accident at the Tombs of the Kings area of the city.

They are reported to be in a serious condition.

Obviously the details of the case aren't yet known, but if they were crossing a pedestrian crossing and got run down then the driver should be facing manslaughter charges.

It is a sad story as it now seems to be from the photo, the crossing outside Lidl. Again from the photo, it seems that it is a crossing controlled by Lights

Yes, I know that crossing outside LIDL. There are lights on that crossing. As a witness to the accident says the 'button controlling the lights was pushed, it sounds like the accident may have resulted from careless driving at the least. Terrible when death or serious injury is the result. Problem is some drivers do speed along this dual carriageway.... There are a lot of pedestrian crossings as one approaches the Mall. What with lights on the crossings and traffic lights at road junctions, it can be a frustratingly stop- start drive at times.

Unfortunately on the Pelican Crossings many drivers don't wait for the amber lights to flash before checking the crossing is clear, they tend to move off on red if they believe the crossing is clear..
Very sad.

Hopefully, there will be witnesses either pedestrians near or at the crossing, and/or maybe other car drivers

I second what Mouse said. Today, I saw a driver go over a crossing on red. Others don't stop or slow down when an amber light on crossings are flashing. I also got hooted by a driver behind me for not starting before the green light showed. Some people are too impatient.
