Hunters disappointed by lack of game on first outing
Thousand of hunters said they did not expect such lack of hare and partridge on the first outing of 2021, many noting that this might be the worst year yet. This was particularly true of the Paphos district, where quite a few came back with no game....

So it's not the shooting of animals, burning of land and laying of poison. It's the fault of the authorities

I wonder if the penny will finally drop that if you kill everything that moves there will be nothing left. Utter madness and incredibly sad for all the wildlife.

Shots fired before daylight around Marathounta area I would guess some within the reserve areas judging by how close the sound was but didn't see any orange hats or bibs etc
Re: Hunters disappointed by lack of game on first outing
Well here in Polemi the shooting started early and by the number of shots we could hear there were a lot of hunters about. If there is a shortage of 'game', what ARE they shooting at.. There are no road signs up here.

There are a LOT of hunters and their votes are needed

The Game service breed and release Chukar (partridge) through the shooting season.

Hopefully, once the penny drops among the hunting fraternity here about the lack of game, plus the increasing cost of petrol and presumably diesel fuel for their pick up trucks, they will stop or at least reduce their hunting trips.
I have no sympathy for them in their relentless shooting of everything that moves.

This is why the birds are so dumb. By that I mean, if you meet them in the wild they will run away from you. They won't fly. They just run and run in front of you. They know no better. Well, that is what I was told anyway, when I asked why they acted like that.

Well, their normal behaviour would be like that:Dominic wrote: ↑Mon Nov 01, 2021 8:17 amThis is why the birds are so dumb. By that I mean, if you meet them in the wild they will run away from you. " Like other members of their family, Partridges generally forage on the ground. Though they search for food on the ground, they can fly to escape predators if threatened. As a whole, they are quite easily frightened, and the entire flock quickly takes to the sky when alarmed."

But when bred for hunting a different story....
