My darling wife telephoned the Citizens’ Office in Polis on Thursday, saw her doctor later that morning and her appointment was this morning. Electricity bills (in my name), marriage certificate, passport and MEU3, together with her Cyprus driving licence, and she was in and out in five minutes. The licence will take about 21 days to arrive. She was given a temporary licence and retained her current licence. They will send a text to tell her when she should return to pick up her new licence.

She is 70 on Wednesday and so no eye test. The doctor literally rubber-stamped the form and that was that.

My thoughts in a few months time are to use Polis. I was surprised at all the paperwork you had to provide.
Were you informed of this when you collected the forms or when you got an appointment ?

The expiry date of MOT's was extended due to the Covid Pandemic.

When I was faced with this problem of driving on an out of date license, the reaction of the lady who served me at the Citizens Advice office, ButcherBoy Rd told it all. She was completely unperturbed, she just told me to keep away from the police!
I got the impression that maybe this was situation normal here.
I limited my driving to essential food shopping and took quiet routes where possible.
And had no issues. So good luck anyone this may happen to.

It is a shame when it is not your fault that you cannot get an appointment for a few weeks. You would think that they would issue you with a temporary paper licence like when you change from UK to Cypriot

Hope this helps.I am now the proud owner of a " temporary " driving licence after a visit to the citizens advice today.
1/The lady at the centre asked,with a very stern look on her that i had an appointment,which i had.
2/She asked me to produce my MEU3.Which i had with me.
3/She asked for proof that i was resident in Cyprus,five years utility bills seem to satisfy,which i had.
4/My old license i had to surrender.
Bingo...i then waltzed out a happy chappy.

If one is renewing a Cypriot Driving Licence for over 70s, when should the Eye Test and Doctor's certificate be obtained, i.e. is there a maximum period beforehand when these documents should be obtained.

What is the tel. no. of the CBB (CAB?) to make an appointment at the Anavargos branch.

As far as I am aware it is not compulsory to have a separate eye test.. I am going to my doctor about a week before my licence expires and I will call the Citizens Service Centre for an appointment in the following week

you can apply for your licence one month before it's expiry date.
Your Dr will do your eye test as part of your medical.

My licence runs out on 14th Aug, so I have booked an appointment for my medical next Monday 19th,
then I have an appointment with CAB the next day Tues 20th.
So both within the month before it's due to run out.
A Cypriot to Cypriot licence, from a 70yrs to a 73yrs one.
I was told I need to take my MEU3, Passport, my Dr's signed medical certificate and my driving licence.
The chap who booked me in for my CAB appointment said they will either take my photo there or use the one on my previous licence.

There is a printed list that I was given by the CAB of items I need to take when renewing my licence in August.
In addition to items mentioned by Cywall it says I need to take utility bills covering 6 months out of the last 12 months
Permit of residence is required as well ie 'yellow slip'
No mention of Passport

Does an individual receive a letter reminding them to renew their license, or is it up to the individual to know when it needs doing?

I didn't get a letter but I did get a text a month before it was due for renewal. I renewed it two weeks ago at Polis.

Thanks, I wonder how many people know if their licence is expired. Not every one reads their texts

People should know from their existing Licence just when it expires. Do be aware though that a licence is usually valid for three years. But the 3 years are from when the doctor signed the certificate to say you were OK to drive. This is unlikely to be on your Birthday, but a number of days before that date..

Surely they made a mistake with your licence Trev.
When I did my renewal towards the end of last year I saw my Doc on the 8th of the month, appointment at Citizens Service Centre on the 14th & the expiry date of my new licence was 3 years later on the 26th of the month, one day before my birthday.
