Local Information for Polemi
Hi everyone, new poster here.
Looking to visit Cyprus next year, have a villa booked in Polemi as a base to discover the area.
Wondering if someone could provide me with some information on the area around the Villa and also the actual Villa itself as it's a new addition to Booking.com so doesn't have any ratings.
The address is oxana 2 πολέμι, 8549 polemi and after some research the Villa is known as Villa Fontana. Any help or photos would be great, never been to Cyprus so want to do some research before I go.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Local Information for Polemi
According to Google Maps it is just down the road to the left of the big Polemi MOT sign here:

There is one review on Google from last year, which said it was very nice.
Based on that, it is fairly central, and near to the shops. You can also walk to the Olive Tree for grub. If you have a car, I would spread your wings a bit and try out places like the Letymbou Tavern, and some of the taverns in Stroumbi, Kallepeia and Kathikas.
If you haven't got a car, good luck!

It's at 460m elevation, so should be somewhat cooler and less humid. Which is a big plus in my book and why I'll be moving there next year (fingers crossed).

Fingers crossed that you get planning permission and have the building finished in 17 months

I'm optimistic. But even if it takes longer I won't be homeless. My current lease contract is for another 18 years ( I can unilaterally give notice though). That should be enough.

Thanks for this. Yes I saw the street view but didn't really go as far as I would have liked. Just didn't want to turn up and it not be what I expected. Looks like a few building sites have stalled in the area. Would it be feasible as a base and as a holiday destination?Dominic wrote: ↑Sun Aug 01, 2021 3:56 pm According to Google Maps it is just down the road to the left of the big Polemi MOT sign here:

Well quite a few of us live in Polemi, me included. We love it.
In terms of unfinished buildings, often when you see them in Cyprus they are being built by a family who add bits when they can. You will sometimes find a frame with the ground floor finished and the upper floors a work in progress.
We chose to live in Polemi because we loved the area and the fact that it was in the middle of the west of the island. So you can explore the Paphos and Polis coasts with ease, not to mention Paphos Forest and the Akamas.

But Jamium, you would be advised to rent a car if you want to explore or go anywhere else.

Great thank you so much. I just wanted to be somewhere central ish so we can go on various days out. Sounds like Polemi would fit the bill.Dominic wrote: ↑Sun Aug 01, 2021 8:10 pm Well quite a few of us live in Polemi, me included. We love it.

In terms of shopping ie Supermarket is there a main store to use? I've seen some good reviews for the Olive Tree,I think that looks to be walking distance from our accommodation but will look to visit I'm sure.
I appreciate I won't be coming for over a year or so, so businesses can come and go, but are there any craft breweries close by?
Sorry for the questions and please direct me to where I should be posting of this isn't the correct category.

We certainly will, we will be a family of ten (3 different families) so will need 2 cars or a minibus would be ideal, any suggestions on where would offer a ten seater?
Re: Local Information for Polemi
Jamiem, there are two 'supermarkets' in Polemi. That is what they are called here but they are village stores, not supermarkets as you will be used to. But nevertheless, they have just about all you will need.
There is also a Bakery, and a cake shop.
Regarding a brewery, there is one about 5 to 10 minutes from Polemi .. https://www.aphroditesrock.com.cy/

Thank you so much, re the brewery, i assume taxis etc are easy to come by?
Re: Local Information for Polemi
If you call the brewery, they have a minibus that will pick you up, I think that you need to book the brewery tour for that, I am not sure maybe someone else will know.

Does your license allow you to drive a car with 10 people who aren't part of the same family? Where I'm from (Germany) you'd need a busdriver license for that.Jamiem1976 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 01, 2021 11:25 pmWe certainly will, we will be a family of ten (3 different families) so will need 2 cars or a minibus would be ideal, any suggestions on where would offer a ten seater?

Good point that I had not thought of. My licence would not allow me to drive a bus with 10 people in it

Yes in the UK my license allows me to drive a 16 seater up to a maximum length of 8 metres plus a trailer if needed.jeba wrote: ↑Mon Aug 02, 2021 6:38 pmDoes your license allow you to drive a car with 10 people who aren't part of the same family? Re: Local Information for Polemi
But you are not talking about driving in the UK. You are talking of driving in Cyprus on someone else's insurance

Re: Local Information for Polemi
A hire care/bus will come with its own standard insurance, if hiring from a reputable firm. I also always pay excess insurance prior to collection from a separate insurance company. The insurance covers the car, we will all have our own personal insurance too. As long as you are legally allowed to drive a D1E category vehicle I'll be covered. I just checked with cyprusdriving.net and all seems fine. We will likely end up with two cars as the costs seem astronomical! But thanks for mentioning it, glad someone else is looking at it from another angle.

Been to the Olive Tree many times and find it worth the drive up from Kato Paphos.
Huge steaks and pork chops all cooked on the barbeque. If I recall correctly, they also do carry out meals.
