Worth noting the end of the article, regarding free tests:

"The decision excludes minors aged 12-15 years and persons 16 years and older with serious health problems who are not entitled to be vaccinated."

Be interesting to see how being hit in the pocket for a rapid test once or twice a week changes behaviours. Also how the stricter supervision of controls be will be handled. The concept of the SafePass was all but nullified within minutes of its launch when they said only police or government officials could ask for your evidence of vaccination/test/recovery rather than than business you were entering. Heard of any prosecution? No, me neither. Impossible to manage so something will have to change. Had this same conversation with the owner of my favourite coffee and cake retailer in the old town this morning who had the same concerns. Apple and carrot cake highly recommended at Grafico if you want to try it out.

Sounds like the government has given up along with the experts who could not agree.

No, why do you think that? I think that the health authorities here and the Cabinet have 'been guided by the rapidly increasing number of cases each day. The number yesterday was 525. I expect detailed data which is available to the Govt shows which ages these cases are coming from. The Govt push to get young people to get vaccinated, especially those under 30 has had a poor response in numbers being vaccinated. At the same time the patients admitted to hospital with Covid is mainly those in 18 - 40 age group. Who also do the most socializing. Plus large parties of 'citizens' as the Govt calls them.
Trying to vaccinate young people and also those in all age groups who are medically fit, but resistant to being vaccinated is seen as the main way to stem the rise in new cases.
