Memory Foam Mattress + electric blanket

Post by kansas »

I know it's far too hot to talk about electric blankets, but we're in the process of buying a new mattress.

We've never had a memory foam mattress so would be interested in hearing the pros and cons about them. For example, are they hot in the summer? We love our electric blanket but we've been told we can't use an under electric blanket, only a heated throw.

Any advice would be much appreciated as one of us wants memory foam and the other doesn't!

Thanks in advance

We have a Tempur mattress which is very warm, to be honest for us it’s only too warm a few nights a year. I’m not sure about the rules regarding an electric blanket, it will probably vary from manufacturer and within product range but I certainly can’t imagine us needing a heated under blanket. There are ranges of hybrids now which contain ventilation layers, cooling gel layers etc. Steptoes have a good selection on their webpage.

When we bought our new mattress from Steptoes (which was a pocket sprung mattress with a memory foam top) we were told not to use an electric blanket under any circumstances. The heat causes the memory foam to lose its memory …
