Does this mean all flights into Gatwick will eventually cease in favour of Heathrow for British Airways routes?

Yes, this was talked about last year. Its a fact that the longer the politicians wait before allowing airlines to fly normally again, the more strapped for cash the travel industry and especially airlines and airports will become. Consolidation will take place.
