Post coming from UK
Post coming from UK
My sister-in-law is having trouble receiving an envelope from the UK. Her daughter has sent her a new English cheque book which arrived in Cyprus 4th June. For some reason it’s being held in Larnica at Customs and hasn’t been released. How does one go about finding out why it hasn’t been delivered? Would appreciate any help - thanks
Re: Post coming from UK
I agree, I have waited for packages well over the stated delivery date, and claimed my money back from the sending company ... Then the package arrives !!

Thanks for the tips - patience is a virtue I believe!!! She is panicking thinking something is wrong but I’ll pass on your comments to reassure her.
Re: Post coming from UK
I once waited 9 months for my cheque book sent by my English bank to arrive. By the time it finally turned up, I had done everything possible to try to establish where it was. Even track and trace couldn't pinpoint it after it left the UK. By the time it arrived I had cancelled it.

Last week out of the blue, I received a 'Customs Check Notification' from Cyprus Post. I was surprised as I was not expecting any package from the UK. On registering on the Cyprus Post Thalis system, I find that it is a card and its status is 'Awaiting Documents' and, asking me to upload an invoice (I received the notification three weeks after its arrival in Cyprus). I have told Cyprus Post that I do not have any documents for a Birthday Card! I'll wait and see what (if) they reply. Like HiC, I enquired at the Paphos main post office. I was told that its probably 'at Larnaca airport'.

We've just had (ie. last week ) 4 birthday cards delivered to the house +
1 parcel delivered by fed-ex at no extra charges whatsoever.

My sister(who's resident in Australia) had a bright idea for my birthday. She chose something from the M&S on line catalogue of ladies clothes in the UK and ordered M&S (UK) to send it to me, via the M&S store in the Paphos Mall. Where it duly arrived by their usual courier and they rang to tell me. It even arrived a day earlier than expected'.
Thus I was saved from a possible trip to customs to collect it!

We sent an order to Cyprus in the first week of May. It reached the recipient on 17 June.
But for the fact we'd sent him a Tracking number, he wasn't in a position to chase it up as they denied all knowledge of it when he originally contacted his local post office.

Businesses still issue them for payment of goods and services, but most will not take them from customer's wanting to pay them with a cheque.

My mum pays for her car tax, garage repairs and anything by mail order by cheque.
She has no bank card and uses cash only for her weekly shop.

Without doubt cheques are a dying thing in the uk, lloyds asked me a couple of years ago if I needed a new book as they only send them now if needed and i said no thanks.
Our business in the uk has not taken a cheque for at least five years but card transactions cover at least 60% of weekly takings.

I started off with nothing and have most of it left !

I am in the same position as Alys. I have a note from Cyprus post asking me to join then log in to their site, I then have to upload a invoice which I dont have. The parcel in question contains an air filter and was bought and sent by my daughter in the uk. If there is an invoice anywhere its inside the parcel! There is no indication as to where the parcel is at this moment. I have uploaded a picture of the air filter with the price in the hope that this will do.
This seems a new process. In the past when I have been sent parcels from outside the UK all I had had to do was take a picture of the item ,alongside the price, to Paphos Post Office and then pay the required duty.

Nothing new with having to provide an Invoice to customs when collecting parcels, as I have had to do at Larnaca Customs office behind the main post office for some years.
