Re: Old advertising slogans

I think the first one was specific to northeast England....

'Collect the labels, the gifts are free
with Black & Greens, the family tea'.

My mum did indeed 'collect the labels', and would let us help to choose the 'prize' of some household necessity or other. Plus, they held a competition to win a wedding dress, veil, shoes etc. My lovely mum filled in 6 entry forms, posted them off, and only blimmin' won! My sister, her fiance, his parents, mine, plus all the staff in the shop, were taken to a very posh hotel for the presentation.

Who could forget these immortal words 'Do the shake n vac, to put the freshness back, do the shake n vac, to put the freshness back, etc etc. Oddly enough, it didn't make housework any more glamorous.

Nor did this one ' Ariston, and on, and on and on'.

The Kia ora ad was catchy - I could sing it for you!

You'll wonder where the yellow went - when you brush your teeth with Pepsodent (slightly different version to Les Bean's, above)

Taking about green shield stamps, I can remember my mum and dad collecting the vouchers from Embassy cigarettes. I was desperate to get enough for a Mitchell 300 fishing reel when I was a kid and would be encouraging them to light up at every available opportunity.................just seems bizarre thinking back.

Yeah that one died a death. I suppose if Corona was around still they would have a similar issue. And who can forget "Denge Delights"?

Since I tried using Pear's soap, I have used no other. (Picture showing dirty old tramp!) c.1930s

Carters' little liver pills. Worth a guinea a box!

Fry's Five Boys Chocolate (shows 5 boys' faces, each with a different expression)

Don't forget the Fruit Gums, Mum!

Dig for Victory (39-45)
