Fury as new speed cameras set to catch 'slow drivers'

Post by galexinda »

Motoring groups and drivers in Cyprus have reacted with anger after it was announced that the new speed cameras to be installed on Cyprus roads could also catch 'slow drivers'.
The Department of Transport on Wednesday announced that Parliament was finalizing a bill that would allow fines to be served against those that drive too slowly.
The announcement stated that it would be "tantamount to discrimination" if those driving "just a few kilometres an hour over the speed limit were fined", whilst those that hold up traffic were not.

Why should they act with fury if they are holding up other peoples lives ?, Its been common practise in the UK for over 10 years now – I know of several people who have been warned or issued with a ticket for “ Failing to make normal progress “ as the offence is named, Especially in rush hour traffic when people are heading to their place of work or heading home – The last thing you want is to be stuck behind someone who is failing to achieve the permitted speed limit, Only difference is that this is been done by camera which is obviously more efficient than your average police patrol.

Has it not always been the case , especially in the U.K., that there is a minimum speed on Motorways?
Ticking away, the moments that make up a dull day.

...regardless of the date, is that also why there is blue and white 65 sign under the 100km signs on the highways.

That’s a good point too! I remember when they had the blue and white signs on the motorways in the UK so assumed it could be the same here.

I was under the impression that the blue 65 was the minimum speed, I'm pretty sure I had read that somewhere reliable. They don't use mph here.

(I get the original post, but the way)

Frustrating when you're stuck behind a car in a 60 mph area, doing 40 mph, with no chance of overtaking.

As my daughter says, you never get stuck behind a boy racer.
It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog.

That link is very good and does explain how things can be .. It even mentions where the speed limit can be different depending which way you are travelling on a particular stretch of road.
This applies to a stretch above the Total Garage on Polis road. Going uphill there is an 80 KMPH sign at the left of the road. Coming down hill there are a number of 50 KPH signs on the road
