Limassol appears to have taken on the role of the island???s speakeasy, reminiscent of the US??? prohibition era, as it has been singled out for the island's slow ...

The Police said that Limassol is higher because more tests are being undertaken.

There is huge problem in Limassol and still the authorities do nothing.....

Aquila,
Thats what I've been thinking, over the last few weeks the number of cases in Limassol has been far in excess of all the other towns or cities. And the Govt appear to be turning a blind eye to this. It seems as if the President who formerly was playing an active role in the Govt decision making with regard to the Pandemic, is too busy now.
We are seeing the result now in the way that things are going.

HIC,
Inevitably, your and my views differ. While appreciating that the commercial and business life here must go on, the problem is with those citizens who act irresponsibly.
I have never said that the whole island must be locked down, but the city of Limassol is a major problem and they are contributing a stream of patients to the hospitals. And, no the problem is that the UK (Kent) virus has landed, mainly in Limassol, judging by the daily figures. It is considerably more infectious and can cause serious chest and lung problems among younger and unvaccinated people.Even a few children/babies are being treated for it. Thus the hospitals and ICU's are filling up.
Thats the reason why Paphos hospital may be required. This in turn is leading to inconvenience to the general public who may be forced to go without medical treatment unless they become emergencies.
It's all very well opening up the hospitality industry, but whether they can stay open will depend on the public and businesses sticking to the health protocols.
I have seen no mention of hotels opening and they must also be getting desperate.
If the virus can't be controlled , it will seriously impact on Cyprus's tourist sector as Cyprus will appear in many EU countries and the UK as a red zone.

Going out partying in the streets doesn't help any business.

Perhaps we can find a quiet corner for Lloyd and his recent need to argue anything and Dee for her anti-Cyprus rants 🤣

My rants are not anti Cyprus. I read a lot about what’s happening and people who are out partying and disobeying the health protocols. This behaviour and other irresponsible behaviours are probably contributing substantially to the rapid spread of the virus particularly in Limassol.

It isn't almost inevitable. The rest of Cyprus are doing ok. It is only the people of Limassol who can't follow the simple rules.

My understanding from the Coffee House column in the Cyprus Mail which I find essential reading to get a feel for Cyprus and is always amusing too, is that Limassol is Pres. Nicks home town and where most of his votes are generated. So he tells the police to lay off annoying them .
My friends in Limassol also report that not only are locals partying hard in marques but that the rich Russians and Israelis are also enjoying themselves while the police look on or direct traffic !
It could all end in tears in a couple of weeks but for the time being the economy or rather the election in June is more important . I would suggest that HIC when he is installing pool fencing in Limassol wears at least two masks and washes his hands regularly . As Sgt. Esterhaus used to say in my favourite cop show Hill Street Blues “ be careful out there” !

Mike J,
Like you I love the Coffeeshop column in the Cy Sunday Mail. Yesterday's offering did not disappoint.. It's cleverly written and often there is a dry humour which makes me laugh! I had forgotten that the Pres comes from Limassol which does explain a lot.
I'm not sure that HIC would heed your good advice as he seems convinced that there is no problem...

Hang on a minute HIC. Don't get over excited! We are only talking about Limassol, the super spreaders of the virus in Cyprus. Surely not world shattering your idea of global commercialism.... Don't forget that the tourism industry is also very important to Cyprus and its hospitality businesses. Currently Cyprus is in the Red zone as far as other countries are concerned.

As Ive said before, very easy to sit behind a computor and lecture and pontificate to others about keeping buisnesses closed, while recieving a nice guaranteed pension or two every week, back in the Real World, Families with children, need to put food on the table, cloth and keep the family warm, whilst looking at the electricity bills, not to mention car bills, insurances, bank loans, etc etc etc etc etc, the longer businesses are kept closed the more chance they will not open, when reading some of the posts on here, im reminded of the, Im all right Jack, let them eat cake stuff. all in all I think the Government have handled the covid crises as best as they can, re the idiots partying in Limassol , the police are damned if they do and damned if they dont, if they went in heavy handed they would get dogs abuse, as they recently did when they broke up a march in Nicosia,

It a certain sector of the general public that has got us into this situation and yet these people continue to disregard the various regulations the government has imposed over the last few months. However, this has also been exacerbated by the lack of enforcement by the authorities to the extent that people are more blasé ..... and so the cycle continues.... to the detriment of businesses and the working population.

There seems to be a mood of apathy towards the rules in general everywhere. These lockdowns have become tedious to a lot of people, the need for 'freedom' is winning.

Here in the UK the social distancing rule seems to have gone out of the window, last week whilst shopping in a local supermarket, people were crowding each other, leaning over you to reach an item, cages everywhere of stock, forcing customers to the wrong side of the aisle. I felt unsafe.

Thank God I have had my first vaccination, won't feel safe until my second however, no matter which one I have.

Some article I read recently stated that protection could be greater if both AZ and Pfizer were used. Who knows.

Trev,
You are probably right about that 2nd shot being the same. But having had 1shot of the AZ one, + its side effects afterwards, am not really keen on a 2nd one of the same. If its possible, I would prefer one of the others...
