Debenhams !!!!!!

Post by Habibi2007 »

I was looking to order a few items of clothing on the Debenhams on line site. I initially went on to the Uk site. Chose a few items of clothing and made sure they were eligible for International Delivery. When I went to checkout and pay Cyprus was not on their list of deliveries.
The cost came to £88.
Out of interest I went on the Debenhams Cyprus site fully knowing that the items would be more expensive.
The cost of the same 6 items came to a whopping 166 Euros that is over £140 so I would be paying substantially more. And on top there would have been the delivery charge of €6.50 as opposed to £5 if it had been delivered by the Uk site.
I find it unbelievable that I am being ripped of as I unable to benefit from the cheaper prices on the Uk site. I have decided to have the items delivered to my daughters address in the Uk and for her to post them on to me for which I will get free delivery to her home and then she will forward them on to me.
I find it very hard at the best of times to get clothing to fit me in Cyprus as a require petite fitting as I am very small and slim but the cost of the same clothing in the 2 stores bares no resemblance to each other.
I think it is a shame that Debenhams Uk do not deliver to Cyprus but just about deliver everywhere else. So we are unable to buy things at the lower price without jumping through hoops, I know this is part of living in Cyprus but at times it can seem very unfair when we are blatantly being charged whatever figure comes into their head. I'm not surprised to see Debenhams empty most of the time. End of rant.

It is very annoying but true. I approached Debenhams some time ago regarding being able to order from their UK website and pay in sterling, this is the reply I received :

Thank you for your email.

I am sorry for the disappointment caused with regard to delivery of items to Cyprus and confusion caused with the previous responses.

I advise you that only customers in (Spain/France/Germany/Australia) are able to purchase through the UK website and pay in GBP.

As you live in Cyprus, you will be unable to place orders for any items from the UK website and pay in Sterling. You will have to pay in Euros.
If you place online orders you must select the Cyprus option on the website and then will be re-directed to a new page where you will pay in Euros.

Kind regards,

Anjalina

Cyprus Debenham's business has nothing to do with England. It is a Franchise from Shacolas Group which run also Ermes and many more companies. One can see why Shacolas is one of the richest people in CY. He tries also to go into business at Polis area with 2 planned Golf courses and more....

It's the same with M&S. The prices are highly inflated & again run as a franchise.

Yes, both Debs and M&S are run as franchises. M&S have to inflate their prices because the agreement is they will sell M&S products which have to be imported and hence making them more expensive.

I personally never shop in Debs as I think they are very pricey, but I do shop occasionally at the M&S Food Hall because, after almost 18 years here, I still miss the weekly M&S shop and I do like their bed linen! X

Why don't you order as normal from the Debenhams UK website and have the items delivered to Cyprus using the LHUKCY shipping service....the delivery charges are very reasonable.

Is there nowhere in Cyprus that you can get clothes to fit you? There are some fine shops in Limassol and Nicosia. It is not the kind of purchase that you make every day so a special outing could be worthwile.

Debenhams.... hmmm yes, very pricey in Cyprus and somewhere we only shopped once each year when I combined my Debenhams Birthday present and Christmas Gift vouchers from my employer of €150.

My birthday is in September and the birthday celebrations and presents were always given out in the month following the birthdays so I got vouchers in October and again in December. We used to go shopping in the January sales :-)

We still tend to avoid their stores here in UK because of their prices.... but for William's benefit, if there's a clothing range you know that fits without having to continuously try items on first, then that's the easiest way to shop. Just frustrating being held over a barrel all the time though :-(

There are clothing shops in Cyprus which have very slim fit ranges but if you're petite as well, then the length of clothing also becomes an issue and nothing except a tailor can fix that...

Ripped off seems a far to strong a term. Debenhams charge what they think the market will bear - after all, they're selling fashion items, not bread and milk.

They have regular sales, so why not benefit from them. My wife and I buy at the shop and never pay the original price.

Not all franchisee prices are high - we buy most of our wine at M&S here, where the prices at below half of those in the UK store, because of duty etc.

It seems you're happy to buy online without trying clothes on. That seems a dubious route. Debenhams ranges vary within the same size. Springfield and Maine for example are quite different actual sizes. A Springfield Large (for men) is always smaller than a Maine Large.

As another poster said, why not get to Limassol & Nicosia where there's much more choice.

. I just happened to mention the difference between the prices in the Uk and Cyprus were greatly different and I cannot understand the huge mark up between the two.
I have been to the sales in Debenhams and a lot of the sale prices here in Cyprus are similar to the original price in the Uk so no bargain there really. As for buying on line I know when I order the clothes it is a risk but usually I only order the make of clothing I used to buy back in the Uk so I know what I am buying and usually they fit. That is a risk I am willing to take. And normally I buy from the petite range, something that I cannot find over here.
I have been to Nicosia,Limmasol and even Larnaca and they have the same shops just a bigger variety but not a lot to choose from for petite people. hence the reason why I need to shop on line.

Debenhams stopped delivering to Cyprus because too many items were going missing. They did try sending unmarked parcels but the percentage of loss was still too great.

Im sure Cypriots travel, out of the country and are savvy to the price of clothing as anyone else.

Could I suggest the op and others check out the topic/thread that was started for companies that members have tried and recommended from their own personal experiences. Retailers who ship to Cyprus.
