Re: British Pound slowly strengthening
Lynsab - bloody cheek ? How do you think I know you are selling your house - because you posted so yourself today!!
Re: British Pound slowly strengthening
yes when you're ready to know what I've been upto this week let me know I'll PM you to fill you in....I'm sure others are bored by this constant tit for tat...so I'll get back to speaking about the chaotic mess the UK is in instead...

Re: British Pound slowly strengthening
As I believe I have said before I never resort to pm's. If I cannot say what I want to say on the forum then I don' t say it. I have absolutely no desire to know what you get up to Lynsab but if you freely post it on the forum then it is available for all to see.
And as for chaotic mess, I certainly cannot see any signs of it as yet. What I can see is many members of EU getting rattled and nasty because they know that the loss of the UK will leave an enormous hole which they will struggle to fill.

Re: British Pound slowly strengthening
When our friends in Cyprus ( back in the UK for two years ) put their property there up for sale the exchange rate was 1.36 when they completed the sale, just this last week it was 1.14 so if you're lucky to sell a house abroad at all in the EU it does indeed help towards the big drop in value now expected ( we've got ours advertised at approx third less than what we paid 9 years ago)
I do know two once expat neighbours from Spain are doing the same and it's allowed them to drop their price even more whilst exchange rate is so low. It does help some people and it's okay to mention it.
The UK news when talking of expats always brings falling incomes into the equation, and inevitably shows a couple in Spain or Malta etc blaming the UK for their present dilemma....when most of us knew fluctuating exchange rates were always a possibility ....brexit though is much longer term and to see the rate rise upto 1.36 to the pound won't happen unless someone actually did know the outcome was to be good...thing is we don't, and they don't...hence uncertainty...
if trying to imply that I'm in a enviable position regarding house/exchange rates then try selling in a flat market!
None of us know what will happen re exchange rates, property sales, rising or falling incomes, immigration status, healthcare here or there, we're all generally in no mans land...like my fellow remain forummers there we enjoy our lives ( not my health which is crap ) and think ourselves very lucky to have had the lives so far we've had which includes our many years in Cyprus...that of course has not affected how I think politically today....and never will.
All I know is I will continue like many of my fellow forummers giving my views and doing what I should have done in the beginning .....so carry on..you're now unreadable.

Re: British Pound slowly strengthening
The good news continues, looks like my "chums" (ex-school friends) in the City of London were right all along.
The upwards trend of the GBP Vs Euro continues.
This morning (Saturday 1st April) £1 = €1.1771
Geoff.
P.S. This is NOT an April fool post.

Re: British Pound slowly strengthening
IF Brexit is so fantastic why isn't GDP thru the roof ?
Why as negotiations begin is it predicted to fall to 1.11 - 1.12?
These falls are predicted by currency traders, not remainers or brexiters.

Inflation for the UK is set to rise to 4% as a consequence of the pound's recent decline. Considered opinion is that the pound will decline further after Article 50 is declared, the 'negotiations' start and the new reality - a bit like Trump's presidency - sets inAfter that, who knows?

Patience, dear Lambros, patience.
If only you had read carefully the words I chose with great care:
"Inflation for the UK is set to rise to 4%..." (note the words "set to", as in "going towards". A verb).
"is that the pound will decline furthe after Article 50 is declared, the 'negotiations' start and the new reality...sets in". Have the negotiations started yet? Forgive me...must have missed them!
Question: If Theresa May walks away from the negotiations as the Telegraph front page today suggests she should, which way do you think the GBP will go: up or down? I'm not a gambler, but I know where where my bet would be.
Tell us more....chair out, popcorn at the ready...

Re: British Pound slowly strengthening
GDP? I take it you mean GBP.
Why do you want to see the GBP fall in value? Your post suggests that is what you would like to see!
My posted predictions MONTHS ago WERE the predictions of currency traders, who happen to be old school chums of mine.
I got very negative comments about them at the time, just as I did when I correctly predicted the result of the 23rd June referendum, and also when I correctly predicted that Trump would win the US Election.
The point is that Brexit has had only had good effects on the UK economy; which we were told would not be the case!
Even the Governor of the Bank of England has since admitted he got it all wrong.
Lyn, be positive. Stop your negative waves. Get behind Brexit and support the UK Govt's task to fully implement the best
possible deal for us all.
Meantime two houses here, not far from your house, have sold within days to British buyers.
You told us your house was for sale, the way things are now you should soon get a sale.
I wonder if THIS is why YOU want a weak pound? Because you will get more pounds for it.
Geoff.

Re: British Pound slowly strengthening
Surely if you sell a house here in Cyprus for euros with a falling pound you would get more pounds? Or was that your point?Because you will get less pounds for it.
Re: British Pound slowly strengthening
Well spotted Varky; sorry about the error there..
But the pound is going up, so Lyn would get LESS pounds when she sells her house in Vrysoulles (the centre of the universe)..
I asked is that why she wants the GBP to weaken.
Simples, but don't hold your breath waiting for the Prophet of Doom to reply.

Re: British Pound slowly strengthening
What seems to be a strengthening pound is more a case of a weakening €. If you check the exchange rate versus US$ you´ll hardly see a change (but a falling €).
Re: British Pound slowly strengthening
This is true.
However this thread is about the £ Vs € as this effects those of us Brits living here on pensions paid in UK in €.
Thanks,
Geoff.
