Violence in Limassol last night (28/10/20)

Post by DocDoc »

Trouble flared up last night in Limassol by members of the public protesting about Covid-19 restrictions and the political corruption. See https://cyprus-mail.com/2020/10/29/seve ... ned-nasty/

How concerned should we be?

Be as concerned as you want. Personally not concerned at all.

There was another incident in Nicosia last night as well. Totally unrelated to this.

Both articles were in the online news.

Perhaps Paphos might be feeling left out 🤔 beware of crowds gathering if you are concerned, just in case...

I doubt those with grievances were the ones doing the rioting.

With regards to the demonstration itself, they really should focus on one topic if they want to be heard. I could understand an anti-corruption demo, in light of recent events. But linking it with a protest against COVID measures clouds the issue. Imagine an Anti Brexit demo in the UK merging with an anti COVID restrictions demo. It would be very confusing for a lot of the demonstrators, who might support one but not the other.

As already said, I doubt that the scum who damaged peoples cars and property, burnt police cars etc , knew or cared what the demo was about.

If I can survive the gauntlet of Lidl underwear aisle on a thursday morning I can withstand any riot.

Perhaps as a result of the disturbances in Limassol last night there may be an increased police presence/roads closed when the President visits Paphos on Friday?
